Safety issue must read

For all expandables and pop-ups

The light/ fan that I use in my 2012 rockwood roo fell last week camping with light left on.

The light burnt through three layers of blankets and put a hole in my mattress.

From my understanding they changed these lights to LEDs in recent models.

If you own one please be careful. Also I was told by forest river this is the first incident.

Please share any stories, if had a similar incident.

My 2007 23SS' s bunk lights have lenses, so don't see how one falling on the bed would cause such an issue.
NEVER had any such thing happen with our Roo, in the nearly 9 years of ownership.

Many people replace the standard RV 1141 bulbs with the hotter 1156 ones because they are easy to find and cheaper, however they are a 26 watt bulb where the 1141 is a 18 watt bulb and it will melt the plastic lens therefore it would burn through other things.

With the posts regarding breakage of the clips on the lights , sound as if FR may be changing the bunk lights from year to year, wonder if certain year lights could have issues? I'm going to check mine when I get a chance.
Ours have lenses as well, I would think the lenses would have melted with them on for a couple of hours....

Yeah, that was my post. ☺ The 2016 models have all LED lights (except over the stove top and the outside orange porch light). I've changed both those out to LED. The new bunk lights don't get hot at all (just have brittle clips).

I checked mine, they don't have LED lights, but do have the softer plastic clips. I'll likely change them out when I get a chance.

Although LED lights consume far less juice than standard bulbs, they do get very hot. Can you install a safety interconnect that kills the power when the roof is lowered?

That has not been my experience with the relatively small led lights in my TT. Mine don't get hot (or even warm) at all. I also have full LED lighting in my home (much brighter lights). In that case, the base of the light can get quite warm, but still less than an incandescent bulb.

Sounds like you own a pup. You should have a 12v kill switch when the roof is down. There were issues with pups built in the 80's where the ceiling light would burn through the canvas when closed up and left on.

Just so I am clear here.

The OP seems to say that the light/fan fell. Not the roof lights. In a pop up, the roof lights cannot fall on the mattress because the beds are not under the roof.

The OP would have had to clip the light/fan to the Shepard pole and it fell on the the blankets and mattress.

Still a great warning to us all. THANK YOU!

Vin.

I believe i quoted from a pup owner and not a htt. My roof doesn't come down on my htt. My past two htt's had a roof close kill switch.

PS. I will have to check, but I believe my htt's 12v kill switch would shut the power off to the bunk lights.

Got a 2015 and no LEDs in the bunks, but I changed them over. Still can't see a bunk light doing that with the plastic lens.

I don't think you would close up either style without removing the bunk lights since they attach to the shepherd's poles.
