Saving $ by camping

No matter how much we love camping, there are always more unanticipated costs in tools, supplies, maintenance etc.

It often reminds me of the old lessons learned from the cost savings of having a wood stove...

Stove pipe installation, etc.: 1,500.00
Chain saw: 459.99
Gas & maintenance of chain saw: 46.95
Four wheel drive pickup: 36,999.99
Maintenance on pickup: 200.00
Replace rear window on pickup: 150.00
Replace rear window on pickup: 150.00
Log splitter: 1,495.99
Fine for cutting unmarked trees on State land: 1,500.00
Fourteen cases of Michelob: 363.72
Fine for littering: 350.00
Tow charges for retrieving pickup from creek: 400.00
Emergency room fee from removing splinter from eye: 300.00
Safety glasses: 9.99
Replace living room carpet: 1,395.00
Repaint walls and ceiling: 40.00
Fifteen acre woodlot: 37,500.00
Taxes on woodlot: 950.00
Replace coffee table (chopped up when drunk): 225.00
Divorce settlement: 65,500.00

Total first year cost: $149,536.63
Savings in conventional fuel: -1250.00

Net cost of first year’s wood burning: $148,286.63

Teetime, too funny! I burn wood so that is spot on. And now with gearing up to go RV 'camping', I don't even want for one second to add up I'll I've spent so far, and I HAVEN'T EVEN PICKED UP MY RV YET! (which is only a single axle 20 footer).

Hence my signature line that i spend alot of money to go sit in the woods.

but back in our tenting days - it was a really cheap way for us to spend a week at the beach ....but after 10 years of that, we wanted air conditioning. And to travel, setting up a tent camp after 8 (or more) hours on the road for one night - not going to happen.

Michelob? Must be better local hipster craft beer! I too think the cost of RV adds up as well! Once you get in the grove and get your stuff its just camp fees though and hopefully no chopping up the dinette table.

It's still camping...

Just look at it as moving it up a notch to the next level!

Good one Teetime. You forgot the repairs to pickup from falling tree on it. Actually saw that happen.

I did manage to break the rear window on my truck, while dumping 4 foot logs in the bed. Still using my first saw .. a Stihl 028 .. since 1989.
Really like cutting, splitting, stacking. Northing like the great outdoors. In addition the house is much warmer with a wood burner.
