Sewer smell hot water bathroom sink only

I have a 2016 Forest River Rockwood signature ultra lite 8281ws in the main bathroom sink i have a sewer smell on hot water only.

Welcome from New Jersey,is the smell only at one hot faucet or all? When was the last time you change the water heater anode? Or flush out the hot water tank?

This is generally caused by bacteria and/or sulfur in the water ( usually well water). If the water sites in the closed water tank for any period of time the bacteria will convert the nitrates in the water to sulfur dioxide ( rotten eggs). Drain and flush the HW tank with some vinegar and water and rinse. If the anode rod is depleted, replace it. To prevent this again, drain the HW tank before storing for any period of time.

Replace the anode rod with an aluminum/zinc one. The magnesium rod that came with the heater will react to any sulfur in the H2O and create hydrogen gas giving you the smell.

When replacing the rod sanitize your H2O system and that should cure your problem.

It isn't the anode if it just happens in one faucet. The half bath is sink is fine the kitchen sink is fine the shower is good too it just smells on the hot water side in the main bathroom

I like to put a little of the enzyme I use to treat the black tank down each drain and let it stand in the trap when it's in storage. I have had sink traps stink from sitting in the heat.

I already do enzyme but the smell is in the hot water in one faucet not the trap.

Maybe some “stagnant” water in the system somewhere. Prolly a long shot, but a cheap check.

I never use my OS on the unit I have now. My old one had an outdoor kitchen and I sometimes washed stuff at the OS.

I run across this all of the time with my job. I don’t know why it happens, but I know how to fix it...usually. There are a couple of things that I replace in homes when this happens at just one faucet — not at every fixture on the hot side. The first thing I look for are the white nylon-braided plastic supply lines. If the faucet is connected with these, I replace them and this usually solves the problem. If that doesn’t do it, I replace (what’s usually) a plastic cartridge or stem on the hot side of the faucet. I doubt you have any lavatory supply lines in your RV, so I would go with replacing the hot side cartridge/stem or just replace the whole faucet.

Again, I don’t know why this happens, but what I have noticed is, it only happens in houses where the hot water is extremely hot — above 130 degrees, and it may happen with only one faucet, even when there are other identical faucets elsewhere in the house that don’t do the same thing. It happens on mostly two-handle faucets, but I have seen it happen with single-handle Moen faucets with aftermarket cartridges installed. Hot water in RVs is almost always hotter than 130 degrees, and your lavatory faucet is most likely a cheap 4” center, two-handle version with plastic cartridges.

The extremely hot water does something to the plastic in some faucets to create this smell, so with the chances of finding a replacement cartridge being slim, you might just want to replace the faucet. You’re most likely not going to find a faucet with 100% brass cartridges/stems for what you are going to want to spend, but I wouldn’t worry about that because the likelihood of having the same issue with a different faucet is small.

EDIT: Something I should have mentioned is, this also happens with faucets where the entire valve body is made of plastic, which is quite likely the case with your faucet.

I agree with FlyBob. I've found if I don't drain my hot water heater tank over a period of time, the next time out we smell hydrogen sulfide in the hot water side. Drain your tank, flush it out, and clean your anode rod with a green scotch pad if it isn't degraded to badly or replace as needed. Reassemble with thread tape or dope and the problem is cured.

Could be chlorine in the water mixing with Antifreeze. If you have a washer connection make sure it is flushed well. Had this happen with a park model. Was the washer connection, being a seperat feed it acted like a air hammier and would mix. Was only on the kitchen facet.

If it was from the water tank the smell would be at every faucet.

If it was at every faucet it could be water heater but as i have mentioned it is only 1 out of 5 faucets i have

How hard would it be to swap the hot /cold lines to that faucet? If the problem moves the issue is in the line,if it doesn't it's the faucet
