Short term storage

Last year, at the end of December, we towed our fifth wheel from Michigan to Florida. One trip, and we knew we didn’t want to ever do that again! Fighting sub zero temps and snow covered roads to get out of the weather was stressful. This year, we’ve decided to leave soon, (while the weather is co-operating), and store the camper for a short term, and return after Christmas to hitch up and continue the trip to Florida. I’m looking for input. Storage at an outdoor, gated, secure storage facility or, in a storage area at a campground? After doing research, it seems that damage/theft occur everywhere despite security measures. Opinions?

So let me get this straight.... Are you looking to store it short-term locally? Half-way down? In Florida? Seems you're still going to have to deal with weather if you're returning and then going back down, no? Why not just winterize it wherever you keep it now and then wait for a clear stretch of weather and go then?

Makes sense to me. If you are winterized, you can wait for clear weather and go. A night in a motel would work if you still have cold weather.

We have left ours in CA at a KOA campground storage for two winter seasons, and never had a problem though. They managed it well and it was secure.

IMHO it seems like a lot of extra work.

My opinion doesn’t matter, of course, but out of curiosity why not tow it all the way down here and then either fly back or drive back? I know it’s a heckuva long trip but I know lots of folks who do that. They move down in October but fly up to spend the Holidays with family. With some of the discount airfares these days, it almost works out to be less expense.

Smile Short term storage

Thanks for replies, but, after communicating again with the gated storage facility, we’ve decided that it’s our best option. Looking forward to a fall vacation in Nashville, and less weather stress in late December!

A few campgrounds in Myrtle Beach have storage available at their grounds. I have looked into it and they appear to be reasonable. Not much chance for freezing there. Their grounds are open year around.
