Shortly after purchasing our 2500TS, we had a shower. I had the vents open a bit and didn't think about it until going to the RV. Fortunately, the vents were not open much, but enough to get a bit of water on the plastic covering the new mattress. Lesson learned, we ordered 3 Maxxair II roof vents, including one for the fan vent. Great investment!! The vent don't open as high, but plenty high enough----and no surprises when it rains. We chose the Maxxair II vent because it had better venting.

I installed the vent covers after waking up in the middle of the night to heavy rain and having to get out of bed and close all the vents. Also, if driving on very windy days the covers prevent and help secure the open vents from the shaking and rattling.

Yep,
Here's mine, fresh from the factory. (the two ahead of the AC are fans, the front and back are just covered vents)

In recent history the fantastic vent covers were apparently the best design. They fit the fantastic event like a glove and the cover does touch the vent as the vent is reaching full extension open. However with diligent search I found that fantastic indicates, no problem, when the lid contacts the cover the motor stops automatically. We had to cover ours because when camped at the beach the moisture in the air kept registering on the rain gauge and closing the vent when we needed it open. Then it would dry out and open again. Then the moisture from the ocean would make it damp and it would close again. The vent cover seems to be a blessing and I find no downside to it at all except that I had to get up on the roof and crawl around to install it. The newly designed max air vent looks like it may potentially be just as good as the fantastic

Cedar Creek put the fantastic fan in the kitchen to draw out cooking odors and that's why DW didn't like cooking certain items but I fixed that. Someone had a good idea about leaving the fan on its lowest setting and I'll try this when I camp next time to pull out moisture, especially at night. I have always used covers over the fans. At night I leave the vent open in the bathroom and when I am on the road. It's good to have some kind of vent covers

I had the dealer put a cover over it before I took delivery. Price installed was about $70 If you want to do it yourself it'll cost about $30 or less.
YES cover it, no question about it.

Fantastic Fans with Vent Cover
Yes they can be covered but it's a different style of cover which allows more airflow. Available at most RV supply houses.

we have 3 fantastic fans in our Cedar Creek. They close with the rain, but we have not been able to get them to reopen. for this reason we put vent covers on 2 of them. We will definately have them checked at the Frog Rally in August.

Watch for 13ft 6in, especially when hooked up. I am 13' 4 or 5 so would not want taller covers.

Our A/C unit is taller than our Fan-tastic Fan covers by a couple inches...

Regarding your statement
"They close with the rain, but we have not been able to get them to reopen. for this reason we put vent covers on 2 of them. We will definately have them checked at the Frog Rally in August."
In a phone call directly with Fan-Tastic directly (800-521-0298) I discussed the features of the model 7350 and it's operations.
Fan-Tastic Vent's Retail 12 Volt Fans
1. They mentioned the units once upon a time had circuitry that re-opened the vent after the sensor dried, but it became a problem more often that not, so they discontinued the feature. Note the feature description above.....no mention of auto-open after drying.
To others in this discussion...............
With respect to vent covers, see this from their FAQ page:
Q DO YOU RECOMMEND VENT COVERS?
A Fan-Tastic Vent recommends using only UltraBreeze Vent Covers for your Fan-Tastic Vent. UltraBreeze Vent
Covers allow up to 100% airflow. The use of other vent covers greatly restricts airflow (by up to 75%), causing accumulation of dust and increased sound levels.
I always have vent covers over my fans but there are different brands out there!
Take care.

With our MaxAir II covers installed and the Fan's on HIGH it's like a Wind Tunnel in the unit! The Air Force could do tests in there! If the Covers reduce the Air Flow by 75% I am Happy, because they would be pulling up the Floor if they had anymore CFM Exhaust! Youroo!!
