Show us your blowouts

This comes up on a thread by thread basis. I'd like to see the carnage all in one place If ya took pics when it happened, let's see 'em.

We've only had one ( so far & knock on wood ). My sister-in-law & her DH bought an older used TT. We advised new tires. They passed, and they had three blowouts ( all at different times ) on their 1st trip. Our one caused over $3K damage and made the back 1/2 of our trip horrible. Tore out a wire bundle & tore the propane line in half. Very few things inside the trailer worked. Luckily, outside lights worked, so were legal to drive & limp home ( 1200 miles ).

Our only blow out do far. Last Fall on our way to Ft. Wilderness. I immediately felt the TT sway and and slowed down and got on to the shoulder. No damage to the TT. Three year old OEM China bombs. We moved up yo our SOB Cougar and agreed we would only run them one year.Click image for larger version

Last year, heard the bang and saw the tire in the mirror before the TPMS went off.

Perhaps if you're going to post pictures of blowouts you should also post the brand, size and age of the tire. The tire pressure and temperature at the time as shown on your TPMS. And list your trailers accurate loaded weight at the time?

Without any of that this thread is all opinion as to the cause and about as useless as udders on a bull.

Sorry, no pics. At 1,200 miles on our Wildwood, sustained over $4,000 damage from a blowout. Required a bunch of outside facial work, new axles and wheel. First thing I did after repairs was throw out the original tires and buy 4 new reliable tires. My first TT in 1974 was sold after 12 years with the original tires and not even a flat. I'll never buy another Trailer without getting good tires on it. The manufacturers seem to put the cheapest ones on that they can find.

Sorry no pics! Many blowouts due to not replacing tires on RV as soon as purchased.
One took the sewer hose, shredded it, wound it up between the duals and trailed the rest out behind like a big blue worm.
Another took the black water tank and gave the car behind us a thrill.
Tires never were run under inflated. Turns out it was dealers trading outdated "new" ones from improper storage for what came on the unit. Always check date on tire, It may be much older than RV.

Looks just like the damage that my three blow-outs caused! Lot three out of four Goodyear Marathons, E rated tire which was borderline for the gvw of the trailer in a six day period - 13000 miles, 80% tread left, cant remember PSI but it was a the max suggested. Total of $5000 damage. Replaced all with Goodyear LT tires with G ratings

Blow Outs

To all the RVers in this post ... I feel your pain, been there done that sadly! Don't let it happen again, go with an LT rating rather than replacing the problem with just a new problem, that is an ST rated tire. These pictures are worth a 1000 words! The new Goodyears Endurance ST's may be an exception, but not enough time to tell yet. That said, why not go with tried and true, something that goes the extra miles / years in terms of service, and that is an LT rated tire. Even 15" rims have an LT option now. Send the message to the manufacturers that you want a quality product. P & LT rated tires must prove themselves on automobiles/trucks every day of the year, and NO manufacturer wants a bad reputation.

Just asked to see them, not do an analysis of the cause.

in addition to the brand, tire pressure, age, include the actual manuf date or simply the entire set of numbers on the tire that define the date, location, size, etc of manufacture. Maybe then we can put together an organized set of data for the powers that be or at least make everyone aware of what not to accept on their units at the time of purchase. It would also help to hear from people who have had no problems what so ever - same information. That may point to some differences that cause problems such as a specific location or date of manuf. If the moderator could start or send all the info to a specific thread so we could collect it from one place it may make a nice spreadsheet for dealers, manufacturers and consumers alike. I do not think anyone wants to sell or purchase a known problem.

I think the OP's idea is simply pictures to look at for entertainment purposes only. No data collection, no analysis, no speculations, and no recommendations...just pictures. Similar to the "Show us your hounds", "Post up your towing pics" and "Lets see your campsites" threads. I think it's a good idea and would like to see it happen. Lucky for me, I've never had a blowout in 30 years of driving/towing, so I have no pics to contribute.

My 16 "China bombs" going well no blowouts, no flats............

Personally I feel most "blowouts" usually incorrect term are road hazards or operator error / lack of maintence.

Agreed. Overload and speed more often than not are the culprits.
