Sign of the Times or just "Thats RV Life"
So we are finishing up our first year of camping, We did 9 trips, covered 1771 miles, had one fridge go bad, whacked a road sign and put a few holes in the canopy and generally had a blast. But this weekend I'm pretty sure someone got into our camper at a campground in North Georgia. We sometimes take long walks and don't always lock it up. They walked past the TV, ignored a few laptops and a Glock 9 and took..... wait for it..... Our Antifreeze.
We had sub freezing temps on the way and this particular camp ground was a good 30 minutes from the nearest wal mart. So is this the most "RV" theft ever? Or just a sign of the times.

What is critical to one person may not be to another they more then likely had the other things and had no money for the needed antifreeze. all in all a sort of win you didn't loose anything dear to you and they got needed supplies. whit that said I have zero empathy for a thief regardless of the reason.

When you are running out of fuel in the desert there is nothing more useless as fuel left at the gas station.

I think this is a sign of the times. Times that unfortunately began a few years ago and we've all been slow to notice.
I put a keyless entry lock on my TT and if I leave my campsite it gets locked. Sadly the days of unlocked doors have joined history.
As for leaving a firearm unattended and unsecured, more and more states have made that practice illegal. Lock it up, carry it, or leave it home.

Had you just used the antifreeze and been observed doing so? Hard to fathom someone just wanting antifreeze and thinking/knowing it was inside your RV.

This goes way beyond the issue of trust. In some jurisdictions, you committed a crime. In all jurisdictions you could be held civilly liable for someone else’s use of the firearm—possibly even the person who illegally entered your RV.
If you have a firearm in an unattended RV, lock the RV—even if you will only be away for a few minutes. This is not an opinion on firearms. This is how I would protect myself from criminal charges and legal liability.

X3. There's just no way someone would walk into your trailer, leave all the valuables and simply steal your anti-freeze.

Others have commented on the theft... and I'm just as befuddled/confused as to why???...but... I'm more interested in how you "whacked a road sign and put a few holes in the canopy"? Seems like a lot of damage/bad luck in 9 trips.

Not to pile on her but I’m going to. Please, please be more responsible with your firearm when you are not in possession of it and yes I’m also curious how you whacked a road sign. I scraped a tree branch once that really left a lasting impression. [emoji853]

How do you know someone got into the camper? It's possible if you don't lock up, but ANTIFREEZE is the only thing they took? Where was it stored that they had to walk past laptops and a gun? It's possible, I suppose because all the other items can be traced.
Perhaps you have a prankster in the campground who was trying to teach you that you need to lock the rig when you go for walks.

I just attributed it to him only having 9 trips and 1700 miles of experience .
We have a new member of our 'RVing Group' who had never pulled anything before. We usually meet in a pre-planned boondocking area once a month. When he travels by himself, he usually arrives with a new boo-boo to his rig

I knew a guy who used to take a Sharpie and mark each new "boo-boo" with date and location where the incident occured. If it didn't make a hole he never fixed, just considered the markup's as badges of honor
Neighbor just brought home a new Rockwood. Before he even took his first trip he knocked the post over that holds up the gate to his storage pad next to his house. When we were talking he said "Well, got that out of the way" (meaning first ding).

I'm amazed that more people don't get 'stuff' stolen. When we go camping, people leave their baggage/storage doors open for an invitation to help themselves. I'm not so trusting anymore. Too many hoodlums and opportunists around. If I leave for as little as 5 minutes I lock her up. I also have another type 'security' outside of my camper where my minifridge and wall TV hang, just in case.

I've been a seasonal camper for many years and AFAIK, never had anything stolen off my site while we are camping or even when we aren't there. (knock on wood).
During the season we don't leave a lot of stuff out that's real valuable other than some tables and chairs. When we are there on weekends we've never had a problem leaving our trailer unlocked even when we leave.
I do know some people that are super paranoid and would literally lock their trailer up to visit their neighbors 100 ft away.
