silly question

Our trailer model number is 21FBS and we've been calling it a 21 foot travel trailer. When we measure the outside, including tongue and bumper, we are up to 26.7 feet. The web site says 25 feet 6 inches.
Do we call it a 21 foot trailer or a 26 foot trailer?

Depends.
For campgrounds that ask, I'd tell them it is 26ft. Sometimes campgrounds try to match slot length to camper length so that large rigs aren't stuck with a slot that is too short for them.
For the government office that assigns license plates based on size of rig, I'd use the title paperwork that says it is a 21ft camper.
You might live in an area where camper size is not related to tag cost, but then again, you might not.

In the UK, the "quoted" length of a TT doesn't include the front A-frame and hitch, just the body length. Maybe the manufacturer of your TT used the UK standard when defining the model?

the model number rarely has anything to do with actual length.
i have yet to find any RV with a model number that is its actual length.
i assume that they want it to be somewhere close to the real length.
use the tongue to bumper length whenever possible. that makes sure you get a big enough site.

Well, makes me want to measure the living space now. I'll report back on that.
In the meantime, on forums and talking to friends, what do you call you tt? the inside or outside complete measurement? just for clarity's sake. My partner says we have a 21 foot trailer, then brother in law chimes in about his buddy having a little 21 footer which he pulled with a jeep. It's all possible with lightweight I guess but I added that this one is really almost 27 foot total and stick and tin making it a beast to pull with a half ton lol.
So this is the reason for the "silly" question.
What do you call yours? inside or outside measurements.

When I talk to people about the trailer, I give the closed trailer length of 23' (its actually 23'9") but will tell the campground 28' because its 27'9" with the bunks open.

You're in a different situation, however. Your Shasta is a TT without bunks that pop out or a hard rear slide that extends the length. I would call it what it is, which is 25' or 26' (your choice).
