Slide crunch

I got home from camping and traveling some very rough roads. I leveled the rig and went to open the main slide and about 3" from being open there was a loud crunch and the slide stopped moving. For the life of me I couldn't figure out what caused the crunch. Then I notice the smoke detector was missing from the ceiling! Sure enough it had come loose and fallen on the top part of the slide behind the fascia. The seals worked as they should and kept the broken parts inside. Today I'm going to install a new one farther out into the living room that can't fall on the slide. I guess I never got is snapped all the way in when changing batteries the last time. Live and learn.

Great news that it’s only a minor incident of having any kind of a slide malfunction. I went out and checked my entire ceiling, front to back and aside from factory ceiling lights and ceiling speakers, I have nothing up there to work loose. My smoke alarm is mounted just above the entry steps.

Good report, and I’ll bet others check their layout.

BTW……good subject title……it got MY attention.

Slow learner here. Left dog bowl out and closed slide on it. Minor damage to cabinet repaired. Next year, closed slide and left leaf in table. Ran into island causing major damage, mirror, trim cabinet. Very expensive lesson. Think I've learned now!
