slide lock question

Just purchased a used Flagstaff 26FKSS.
Does using a slide lock cause membrane wear?
Does the inner pad go against the rounded membrane cushion that against the top of the slider? Or just against the small part of the top of the slider that is above the cushion?

Thanks!

Do you have any pictures of your slide locks?

Welcome to the forum from the space coast. I am assuming you are talking about the bars that install above the slides once they are retracted. I would assume they would go against the top of the slide and not the cushion. I could see where this could damage the cushion area that is meant to seal the sl9de from the outside elements when extended.

slide locks

They are Am tech with padded rectangular ends. Hopefully the picture comes through
The issue is the slide lip has a cushion and then very little of the lip above the cushion. Seems the leverage would be great on the top of the slide lip?

You have them installed correctly. At least that’s exactly how I used to install them. If you are concerned about the square edges on the short side of the white pads you could file them a bit to round them off.

Welcome to the forum btw.

slide locks

Oops that's not my installation. Just a pic I copied.
For my application there is an angled/rounded padding under the membrane that takes up most of my slide lip. I only have about an inch above the padding that would be flat for a brace to butt up with. BTW unit is 2012.

Do I even need them? Previous owner did not use.
Thanks for all of your replies. Heading out tomorrow.

Typically those are provided by most manufacturers for use when there is a malfunction with the slides wherein they may deploy during travel. Not normally used otherwise.

I’m not sure what your interior slide seal looks like, mine looked like in the picture. IMO, if the manufacturer provided the slide locks they want you to use them. I’m sure you can get away with not using them if you don’t travel on rough roads or off road but where I store my trailer I cross some uneven ground so I always used them.

Yes, use them as I believe for the reason stated. If your slides creep out during travel no matter what the road condition then there is an issue with the slide and the strut should be used. Otherwise, ah.
