smoke and fire detectors

Our TT does not have an exit window in the bedroom. I would like to put an ionization and photoelectric detector at each end of the camper. I need battery operated, highly rated, not too expensive. Any suggestions? I've bought a few and returned them as they didn't seem to work properly. Also, how do you test a photoelectric besides the button?
Thanks!

You can purchase spray cans of approved test smoke from many locations including HD & Lowes. This is what commercial alarm companies use for certification.

That is why I insisted on 2 exit doors for my TT although I do have an exit window in the bedroom also but it is not very large and is a pretty good drop to the ground to take a header. Plus my old body can't maneuver very well.
