Snake in the camper!

So we got home from camping at Buccaneer State Park in Waveland, Ms this weekend and found this in the camper!!! It must have slithered up the landing gear and perched up on the slide rail. Needless to say it was dead when I opened up the slide when we got home. It about gave me a stroke!!!

That's an old-fashioned "mice repellent" device.

Don't talk about it too much or everybody's going to want one.

That's me. The only good snake is a dead snake in my book.

I've got a good friend who will catch any/all snakes and identify the poisonous from the non poisonous kind.

I'll never forget him a few years back while we were out in the woods of Mississippi, when we came up on a snake. I'm trying to give it a wide berth, while my friend wants to play with it. I keep telling him to leave it alone. That snake took off, and came directly at me. I'm doing the Texas two, three, four, whatever number step trying to get away from it and find a stick to beat it with.

I then asked him if it was a poisonous snake, and all he says was "I dunno".

I then came real close to using my new found big stick, but not on the snake.

We intentionally camp with 3 snakes and a bearded dragon. I always warn the wife that not everyone considers a live snake a good snake.

Looks like a king snake, non poisonous and as pointed out earlier, great at keeping mice away.

I don't even know what to think about that statement. Everybody is different, but I would stay clear of both you and your pets
Guess I'm not as open minded as I would like to think

I'm with WM... I don't like snakes.... and yes I kill when possible.

A boy I work with had his wienie dog bit by a copper head Friday evening and killed a 3 ft water moccasin on his back patio Sunday... same dog almost got bit by it.

Yep. Kill them all. The ones that aren't poisonous cause heart attacks.

I'm not fearful of snakes as long as they are a few feet away but I do hate them. I do not kill them on sight. OTOH, my wife is so deathly afraid of them that she gets ill if she just sees a picture.

Snakes and Buccaneer State Park

Buccaneer State Park is one of my favorites! I just love the LA/MS/AL/FL Gulf Coastline. Time was when I would screech when I saw a non-New Hampshire snake, but our five winters in Texas so far have mellowed me.

New Hampshire snakes are almost always non-venomous, but all snakes do so much good, rodent-wise, that I have learned to respect them. We were at High Island, TX this spring to see the nesting roseated spoonbill rookery and I almost stepped on a poisonous snake. I screeched. As they say in the vernacular, "I've gotta get me some of them there Texas cowboy boots!" I was wearing my New Hampshire hippie Birkenstocks! (Not a good choice.)

I'm with those who say, "live and let live".....to a point. I appreciate the rodent control provided by snakes, so if I catch one near the house (so far none seen anywhere near our campers over the years) I'll catch it and release it on the outskirts of our property. But there was a time I felt compelled to kill a copperhead that had set up shop on a popular hiking path - couldn't get it to retreat and was afraid it might bite the next hiker that day. Yes, I felt guilty about it - still do - but there are limits to sharing space.

Yup

Nuke it. Burn it. Leave it at the side of the road. I’d be done. I’ll take mice any day.

Some might find this interesting from here in Arkansas -

"All native snakes, including venomous snakes, are protected by law and are illegal to kill unless they “pose reasonable threat or endangerment to persons or property” on your private property, according to the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission wildlife code.

King snakes are good snakes.
