Snow and More Snow

Hi
Looking for information about the snow load on the roof of our 28 ft Sunseeker. We had 11 inches in RI last week and brushed about 2/3 's of it off but still some in the center. Prediction is for another 8 inches tomorrow. Too icy to climb the RV ladder but did work from ladder in truck bed. We plan to blow it off tomorrow w the leaf blower. Any thoughts on how much of a load it can take? Any tricks of the trade?

Headed to Florida.....a month too late.

I don't know about snow loads, I just cleaned 3 feet off mine last sunday, checked everything out and didn't see any problems. Don't know how long I would leave that much on the roof thought.

I had 18 inches on mine, melted off last week, no issues inside.

I'd take a look at your local RV dealers and see what they are doing. Also the storage lots. I'll bet most folks don't do anything. I did see a similar post over on the Airstream forum a few days back. They had a unit buried on top and 3 sides by a huge drift!

Where is your unit parked. If you have it on AC power, stick a small electric heater in it. That will (SLOWLY) melt the snow....

BTW, we are having a heat wave - multiple days of record highs. 60+ today in SE Mich.

I agree that most people and dealerships do nothing. I don't and have never had an issue. I believe that getting on a frozen roof may do more harm than good.

Do I clean the snow from my trailer, a definite yes. We had a failure a number of years ago due to heavy wet snow.
Dry snow will be under 7 pounds per cubic foot, wet snow is 20 pounds per cubic foot, ice is about 50 pounds per cubic foot.
We live in an area that gets wet heavy snow regularly. On a 30 foot trailer, and one foot of wet snow this is over 4,000 pounds on the roof, well beyond the CCC of the trailer. We clean with a snow rake or push broom using a stepladder and do not go on the roof.

If the snow is more then it's better to hire the service of any snow removal agency to clear off the snow as they can do it in a very short time. We normally used to hire such services in our place.

Snow insurance well worth the $$...no ice damage, no roof damage, no broken bones, peace of mind during snow & ice season when the Windjammer is inside.
