Snow birds input

Hubby is retiring in 2020, We plan on going to warmer weather Jan & Feb 21. We are considering AZ for normal reason except it looks like they have lots of activities at most parks. Wold be open for TX. We live in the KCMO area so centrally located. Any in sites or advise or opinions would be appreciated.

First, congratulations to your hubby on his impending retirement.

We have been "snowbirds" for about 6 years. Three of those, we spent in Florida. One year, we were in Tucson, AZ, and last year, we were in Orange Beach, AL. This year, we are heading to Texas.

We have friends from KCMO who winter in the Brownsville area, which seems to be a very popular spot for "mid-westerners". (We are going to Port Aransas, near Corpus Christi next week.)

We both loved Arizona, but I would suggest that if you are going there, Tucson is a better option than Phoenix, simply because it is far less crowded. There is plenty to see and do in Tucson, and many of the RV parks there have very extensive classes and programs for snowbirds.

We thoroughly enjoyed the Orange Beach / Gulf Shores area, as well. Lots to see and do in that part of Alabama and the Florida panhandle.

Whatever you choose, enjoy yourselves.

Mike

Congratulations on your retirement. We really enjoy the Rio Grande Valley part of TX as Winter Texans. The people are great, food incredible, lots to do, many options as to where to park the TT and the price is right.
Enjoy

2 years ago we went to Alamo TX, In the Lower Rio Grande valley. The area is a bit border town, but for the most part the people there really like the “Winter Texans”. After all we spend a lot of money in the area. It is a rather short trip to South Padre Island and there are some parks and wildlife preserves in the area but not a lot to do outside of the RV parks. There are tons of activities in the parks so there is almost always something to do. They had an abnormal cold spell while we were there but for the most part the weather was pretty good. It would be nice and warm for several days then may Be a cold front would bring in some rain and cooler temps but it was very bearable. The wind blows a lot in the area and we were told it is a normal thing for it to be breezy.

Last winter we were in Casa Grande AZ, between Phoenix and Tucson. The weather there was pretty good also. There were some cool days and windy days but you are going to get that anywhere you go anyway. The area is quite nice with plenty of choices for shopping and we were about 40 minutes drive from Scottsdale so just about anything was easily found. We did not spend much time in Tucson but we passed through and it looked pretty nice.

We are in Florida this year and are liking it fine so far.

Price wise, Texas and AZ were pretty close, Fl is more expensive. Any big RV park in these areas will have plenty of activities. Be sure to get in touch with any park you are interested in soon after New Years to find out when they will accept your reservation for next winter, they all fill up fast so you will want to get things set up as soon as you can.
