Cool Snow in AZ

Hi Everyone,
Since we live in sunny AZ haven't had opportunity to drive in snow. Well.. planning a trip to Williams, AZ in the end of a major storm for the area. How will our Sunseeker handle it?

No snow down here in Yuma!

Being from Michigan and Colorado, I have to say that if you have never driven in snow before...you might want to reschedule your trip.

I've driven in snow all of my life (just moved to AZ last summer) and from the amount of snow I saw forcasted for up there I would not pull my 5'ver up there until the roads are clear.

Wait a day or so until the roads have been cleared and dry. Don't take any chances. The road crews in that area have plenty of equipment and are used to these storms. We grew up about 100 miles S of Chicago, and have plenty of experience, but I still would hold back.

check to see if the roads are even open. ALL state highways (az-87 and AZ-260) into or out of our town are closed! i know williams is on I-40 but it is also 2000 feet higher than us.

Angels52 please don't look to play on a slick highway. It might be an adventure for you, but others have to be there for various life requirements. If you are not used to driving your class c in the snow, wait until you do not have to do so.

Snow in AZ

I guess I didn't lay enough foundation. I'm from Chicago and used to driving in the snow and my husband lived in Flagstaff for 4 years. My question is how does the Sunseeker handle snow? To me it's different than our former travel trailer so that's my question.

Travel in incliment weather

Do the workers out there trying to keep things clear a break, and hold off till roads are officially declared "OPEN".

Okay, I know the conditions are bad and people need to take that into consideration. We need to be in the area Saturday afternoon and are not on a lark! I thought I could get some input on the Sunseeker handling not lectures on joyriding in the snow

Snow in AZ

I think all it will take is a good gust of wind to hit your lightweight, high profile sail to send you careening down the mountainside.

have a nice flight.

what time do you have to be there on saturday afternoon and what route are you taking? i would think coming from the west on i-40 would be the best route. things should be better by then and the main roads should be plowed and open. i don't know how to answer how any particular vehicle will handle. i doubt that rv's come with four wheel drive. the thing i would be most worried about would be if chains were still required. it should be warmer on saturday, but still it will be slow going. especially if everybody from phoenix comes up to see the snow and clogs the roads (it happens). double check if you still have to really be in williams. many events up here have been postponed and will be rescheduled. depending upon why you have to be there this may or may not apply to you. whatever you do, leave plenty of time and be safe. but you already know that.

Snow in AZ

Thank you ChickDoe, we've been monitoring the weather and will probably take the western route and not Flagstaff way Saturday afternoon. Husband is a police officer for 33 years and loves his life and mine so he's not foolhardy. I've been in AZ for 29 years and just now thawing out so snow is not my idea of fun. We'll take our time and pull over when we need to. Take care.

30+ inches of snow and you are planning on driving a motorhome into that?

Good luck with that...

Obviously you didn't receive the suggestions you were looking for.

It is hard for us to offer ANY advice about YOUR skills or how YOUR equipment will handle since we know NOTHING about you so the only advice folks can pass along is what they would do given the same situation.

Sorry you are having such an issue accepting that.

Best of luck to you.
Be safe and consider the safety of those around you.

the phoenix tv station weather report just announced that flagstaff has already bypassed the one day snow record with more expected (31" inches so far). the old record was set in 1915. wow!

Not lecturing just good advice nothing is that important to take risk. I also was born and raise in Chicago area ya I know what its like to drive in the snow and ice. Look at all the idiots that cause the recent accidents in snow storms. You can get all the info on driving your rig but its the other guy ya got to look out for. I live in the south now and I stay off the roads in bad weather. Guess why. Later RJD

I would not try it. I grew up in snow country too and without chains/4WD there is no way. Kingman got buried and it looked like whiteout conditions so I-40 will be a mess all the way to Flagstaff and beyond. Is this an emergency? If not, wait until the roads are cleared.

Since you are to be there on Sat, see what the road conditions are like then. Make your decision when you get that info. Storm is supposed to taper midday Friday.
