I'd be very surprised if they'd give out someone's contact info to anyone but the police.

That would not help unless someone saw it happen. Even then not likely. I have seen campers get hit file a police report and the violating party flee a few hours later never to be seen again. You nor your insurance will go out of state to fight getting money with no eye witnesses. It's too expensive, and impossible to prove, cheaper for them to eat the claim.

Sorry to hear about the damage.

This place is a hoot.
OP: it was hit.
Masses: Gagh, had to be wind! No, vandalism.
OP: Nope, hit.
Masses: Nooo...vandal-wind-ism!
OP: Nah, definitely hit, you just can't see it.
Masses: WIND!!!

Just struck me as funny, no harm intended to the Masses.

It would be nice if people would read all the preceding posts before posting, I lost track of how many times the OP said it was hit and not wind as I read the whole thread before posting this.

Todays people and accepting responsibility!

Know what you guys mean about in the past and how you would never drive away and not accept the responsibility for a boo boo.

Not so today, my wife and I were ran off the road side swiped and ended up in someones yard only to watch the Dually that hit us drive away down the road.

Had to replace our dingy!

I have the same setup on a long rig, so this is useful to know. If you have no damage to your fiberglass walls adjacent to the kitchen, you can count yourself lucky. A door is much easier to fix. If this was caused by a camper turning, they may not have even realized what they did; only to find major damage to their rig later on. If they have aluminum walls like most RVs they might have lots of damage. You have the right attitude.

Luckily the only damage was to the door itself, the door frame, and the gas struts. Could have been much worse.

Seems a lesson on leaving things unattended, as well as accidents in motion by others. Maybe it's just my paranoia about people and open doors equaling 'missing items', but I wouldn't have left the door open unless we're outside in our space around the RV. That's practically your living room door open while you're off to the movies kind of thing, to me.

It looks like someone backed into the open door. There wasn't a site across the way?

On a side note. How does the ice maker work for you? We were thinking of getting one and not by so many bags of ice.

We love the ice maker! It has paid for itself probably 10 fold. It does take a while to get going. First batch of ice each trip is small and takes about 30 mins to make. After the initial batch of ice it starts making it much faster and they are full size. It makes plenty of ice for our families drinks although it may not keep up if you have more than 4 people making alcoholic beverages on a hot day.

Twisterbret, I bought an ice years ago. I love it. We fill it and it makes enough ice for the two of all day in about two hours. I usually make it in the evening while reading before bed. We used to canoe and I wanted it to make ice for the lunch packs. If it quits, I will be at the nearest Walmart before the sun sets.

Have witnessed on many occasion kitchen doors like this one and or patios that extend out from the back areas of RVs get caught from other RVs taking a turn to close or the over hang swinging into them on a opposite turn. In smaller campgrounds it can be a real problem for both the victims and the offenders. No excuse to drive away though without knocking on your door. Always best to close those down though when not in use, due diligence is the best practice to avoid heartburn like this. Hope you got home without further incident.

Thanks. We made it home safely and have a great shop doing the repairs. Progressive insurance is treating as a hit and run so no cost to me. As said earlier, I knew it was close but left the door open because I assumed (you know what they say) that at 12:30 everyone that was going to leave was already gone since checkout is at 11

All the parts came in last week to complete the repair. Dropped it off yesterday, should be done in a couple days. Progressive insurance has been awesome and Atlantic RV has been amazing to work with in Culpeper VA.

Judging by the way half the people I see pulling in and out of campsites drive, it was probably "Hit and didn't even know it"
