Someone hit my camper

While the Sunday mass Exodus was happening today we were swimming in the pool with our friends that are visiting from England. My son went back to the camper for a drink. He came running back to the pool "yelling someone hit our camper." Thinking it was no big deal I walked down to check it out and the outdoor kitchen door was laying on the ground up against the camper.

While upset that this happened I am not letting it ruin our trip. This is why we have insurance. The tough part it going to be driving home without the door on. Hopefully it doesn't rain.

On my final night of a 3000+ mile two week trip we were sleeping when a large bang occurred and the camper shook, 6 AM ! DW jumped up to check the grandson in the bunk room. I went outside. The Class A behind me had swung out to leave with his awning still out ans hit the rear of my TT. Had a finger sized hole and a wrinkled decal. That was mid June. I just picked it up Friday August 2 with a total labor and material cost of $2, 072.90. Even though the other party's insurance covered the damage, still a ridiculous cost. Decal was a mere $25.29, rest was labor, shop supplies and "materials".

I had a similar experience just three (3) weeks after buying a brand new TT. We went to a car show where the spaces are really tight. It was raining so I just parked in my spot to wait for the rain to level off to set up. A big convertet Grey Hound bus pulled in next to me and slid to a stop and his lower mirror mount but the fiberglass siding of my TT causing an eight (8) inch gouge in the side. Othereople saw this happen but the guy backed out and drove off. No one got a tag number. I had the local police come out to write an incident report and get witness statements. With that info at least my vehicle insurance covered it as a bit and run. Thirty-six hundred dollars ($3600) for the repair but they did a great job.

First thing I did was call insurance company. I asked if I needed to file a police report and they said I could if I wanted to but it wasn't going to change anything claim wise.

Amazing that they didn’t say anything when they did it.

Looks like the trip home could be interesting with that off.

Might want to put the fridge in the truck or inside maybe to keep more from coming out while traveling.

In my early days of camping this was never heard of some one would own up to it but now a days not many. Was sitting at my camp sited a women said a street side do your 2 dogs bite they were to husky's. Just looking around to my surprise she cut through my site. Now if some asks I say yep will eat you up also LOL

It is hard to tell from the pics but are you sure the camper was hit? It kind of looks like the kitchen door was left open and it caught some wind.
Not saying it actually was not hit, just saying from the pics posted I cannot tell.

Definitely hit. I was only about 100 yards away at the time. We have had zero wind this weekend, literally not even 1 mph of wind. There are some pretty good marks on the corner that was hit.

My wife and I have already discussed this. I will be removing everything from the outdoor kitchen and debating on if I need to pull the fridge out. As long as it doesn't rain while traveling home we should be fine.

I would definitely pull the fridge. I know ours has broke loose in the outside kitchen. Just not much to secure them to. Strap it down in the truck bed or somewhere in the rv til you can get the door fixed/replaced.

Definitely remove. Only held in place by 2 screws on bottom front edge. Being top heavy a sudden turn or just the right bump will have it hanging out with the fridge door hanging open to ad insult to injury.

FWIW, this is a big reason why I prefer boondocking. Sites are bigger and you as a rule don't have anyone driving close.

I don't see any impact marks on the edges of the kitchen door like it was clipped in a hit and run or a back and book.
Looks almost like wind caught it and ripped it upward.

What a darned shame. Sorry this happened to you. Whatever happened to taking responsibility for your actions? Our DIL has worked very hard to buy herself her very first brand new car at age 35. Someone hit a rear corner of it last Friday and put a big dent into it. No note, no nothing and of course out of camera range in the parking lot.

Always file a police report. Always. Your "insurance company" is not "on your side" if they are paying the bill. They will figure out a way to jack your rates as a "claim". A police report will "make sure" it was no fault of your own. It makes a HUGE difference a year or so from now. I've had my insurance company tell me "no big deal, you are covered". When I decided to switch to a different provider a few years later "this" was on my record. Had to jump through hoops to prove it was not my fault. The police report proved it. Always, always, ALWAYS get a police report. It's "your proof".
