Sound proofing around a generator.

Has anyone tried using the foam acoustic panels around a generator or have an idea on how to reduce the noise of a generator? I was thinking of building a 3 sided box with a roof and putting the acoustic panels on the inside.

Thank you.

Be careful with that acoustic panels insulate and the genny needs air to cool itself

There are several designs that attempt to lower the external noise level of standard contractor generators.

One thing you have to maintain is good air flow through and around the generator. The most effective design is a double labyrinth design. It's basically three, 3-sided insulated boxes overlapping each other opposing the open ends. Then a blower is added to ensure good airflow. It gets elaborate enough that it's not a very practical thing to do.
