Stabilizing jacks...permanently mounted???

I have a 19RR and the stabilizing jacks are loose. I need to take them out of the storage and deploy. I’m thinking about mounting them permanently.

How do you protect them from weather and road grit?

How long do they typically last when permanently mounted?

Any hints?

I assume you have the scissor type jacks. There are a couple of things to consider. First, you have to be sure that they won't hang too low when retracted, thus potentially getting ripped off when the rear of the trailer dips going up or down driveway entrances or other similar sharp inclines. In regard to permanent mounting vs not, permanent is certainly more convenient, however, if you rip one off as discussed above, it will likely not just destroy the jack, it may twist up and do some damage to the trailer undercarriage. If you do permanently mount them, suggest not mounting them at the extreme rear of the trail. Put them about half way between the rear end and the rear set of trailer tires. That will give them more clearance when going over bumps and driveway entrances. As far as protecting them from weather and road grit, there isn't much you can do, although when I had a set on one of my trailers, that wasn't a problem.
