State Campgrounds or Private Campgrounds/KOAs?

Hi all,
Where do you camp? State Campgrounds or Private Campgrounds/KOAs?

We mostly camp the Ohio State Campgrounds. (And by the end of 2011, we will have stayed in most of the electric equipped* campgrounds.)
*Wife's requirement

We have camped Private Campgrounds, a KOA or two, & Private Property, but we always end up back at the State Campgrounds. They seem to be a little nicer, a little bigger, and, most times, have more old-growth trees.

We are very fortunate that Ohio has such nice state parks as we also tend to stay in the state parks more often than private campgrounds. Our local state park, Harrison Lake SP, is booked almost every weekend in the summer. They have a local organization, "Friends of Harrison Lake" who does an excellent job of organizing different activities each weekend. One weekend that we were there they had a civil war re-enactment including authentic cannon firings every hour out over the lake. The nightime firing was certainly a sight to be seen.

Try as many state parks as possible. Have had wonderful trips in Louisiana and Florida. Have never been disappointed!

Mostly military FAMCAMPS so far since they are very inexpensive (since we are retired that is a factor). If not a FAMCAMP so far its been KOA or Good Sam campgrounds. I need to investigate state park systems to expand my experience.

National and State parks, almost exclusively. We stay at private parks only as a last resort. Our home State of New Mexico has plenty of variety & we prefer the quiet, out of the way places and can find many very quiet places to dry camp on federal land with incredible scenery. My all-time favorite, tho, is the national parks in Utah.

Almost exclusively COE or national parks but will stay in a KOA or private park if stopping overnight on the way to a destination.

State Parks, Corps of engineer parks and my personal favorite - county parks. Many counties have gems and while they are often hard to find in guidebooks, they are often cheap, located in beautiful places and well maintained.

Mostly Texas state parks, $20 a night with water and electric. The parks We have stayed in the showers have been very clean and the water is HOT. When we are out of state in is mostly commercial.

We stay at mostly private campgrounds, a few state but never never never in any KOA. We have stayed at a few KOA and got nothing but bad experiences.

We stay at both State Parks, and Private Campgrounds. I like both. There are a lot of nice state parks to visit. We try each year to find new places to go.

Another vote for state park campgrounds, the nicest campground I have ever seen was a SP in Fla. I seem to be very disappointed every time we stay in a private CG. Our local SP CG are very nice and great for those stay-cations.

State Parks, US Forest Service Recreation areas and National Parks. If the private campground is nice with trees and a woodsy feel we will go for it.
