Stop at weight stations with TT ??

I'm not sure if I am supposed to stop at the weight station or not with my TT. Are all states the same rules when I get an opinion? I have a Rockwood 2902 WS being hauled by a Ford Excursion. I'm from Texas and am about to strike out on a long journey. Couldn't come up with a definitive answer to this... Thanks

who needs to stop does vary by state. If the sign doesn't explicitly state that campers/RVs or all vehicles over xxxx weight I would not stop.

I agree, no need to stop. Having said that, I frequently stop at closed weight stations to check my weights. It is a good FREE way to learn how hitch setup, and loading affect my rig.

Not really pertaining to RV's, but Something I learned about weight stations regarding the big rigs. The driver of a big rig on a YT channel I watch said that if the entrance ramp to the weight station is backed up to the interstate with big rigs waiting to get weighted,the authorities will close the station so as not to have big rigs waiting on the highway.

Makes sense.

X2 I've stopped at closed weigh stations as well. I have one within 5 minutes of my house on Hwy. 401. Here in Ontario they leave the scales turned on and you can see your weights on the board. Their scale only measures one axle at a time, but its free, and I like free! (and they tore down the closest CAT scale when the truck stop shut down).

We have a Ram 2500 diesel 4 wheel drive with NY commercial plates because of the weight, I believe. We have never stopped at weigh stations but am now wondering if we should. We have never been stopped between Maine and TN.

X26 or whatever number we are on, on the don't stop. but I did stop recently, kind of by accident. Traveling on I-20 out of Marshall TX and there is a permanent TxDOT weight station on the westbound side. My dually was new and I thought I heard a strange noise so I was looking for a place to pull over and not have some idiot run into the back of me. I saw the large weight station ahead and pulled in, then headed off to the side so I could get out and check everything; all good. When I started to leave, I noticed there were no trucks in the station, but the Texas DPS troopers were standing by the scale building. I rolled up and asked if he would let me weigh the truck and he said sure; gave me my front axle and then total weight and a wave. Never hurts to ask...well I have had my face slapped when I asked; but that is a different forum altogether...

As a retired police officer both federal & state. There is not one state in the united states you need stop unless hauling a boat which many states require for invasive species inspection. You are in no trouble if invasive is found you will be directed to a cleaning where you wash and dead species drop off or an area or a u turn. Now I will be honest anyone whoever turned around was likely stopped as something else was likely on board.

Here's an interesting web site Weigh Stations - AAA.
This past summer a friend of mine (5th wheel in tow) was stopped by a State Trooper near a weigh station in Maine and during their conversation he handed the trooper a new CatScale doc....friend was allowed to continue on his journey without any problems...he might be one in a million who was stopped but something to be said about having an up-to-date CatScale doc.

Only commercial transports have to stop. They usually have name placards on the side of their trucks. A friend of min was stopped one time because he had a Political Sign on the side of his truck and the DOT thought he was a transporter.

Is it ever an issue to stop at a weigh station in the US (if they are not busy) just for your personal peace of mind to know your TT weight?
