Calm down Francis....
I've never parked overnight at a Walmart, and I don't actually plan on going out looking to spend some quality time in their parking lot.
Although with the amount of money my wife spends there, they probably owe me a campsite LoL.

OK folks so the "Reasonable Alternative" is What I suggested in Post 17

For those overnight stops, nothing can beat Passport America 50% off camping rates at RV parks make it a great value for overnighters. We made our first years dues back in 4 stops. Loved it so much, we are now Lifetime members and I have easily made our Lifetime Membership cost back twice over.

Check it out folks: Passport America The original 50% Discount Camping Club - Passport America Discount Camping Club

We had reservations at a RV park in Eureka, NV, but when we arrived the office was closed. I didn't have the correct change to pay, so I called the number posted on the door. I indicated that we were not going to hook up to the electrical or sewer, so he said "No charge." Now that is what I call Nevada hospitality!

As to "camping" at Walmart, I don't blame them if they close it down. At one of our local stores, there are people and their trailers who have been there for at least a week while doing who knows what, probably up at Lake Tahoe or some such stuff. We had to lay over one night in a Walmart lot in Ridgecrest, CA due to extremely high winds on US 395, and it was a godsend that we were able to find a place at 2:00 AM to get out of that wind with our 2011 Rockwood MiniLite ETC.

stabilizers... some heavy RV can ruin the asphalt under the stabilizer pad especially in hot areas, so NO STABS.

I lived in Oroville from 5-7th grade. My parents bought a house near Las Plumas High School in 1966. My stepmom owns the house now after Dad passed at 84 in 2007.

Unless there has been major renovations to the WalMart parking lot, it was never built for RV traffic. Aren’t there short walls around all of the narrow access roads?

It sounded like you were making an excuse to put out the slide so that you could make it comfy for the crowd overnight in the lot...

Walmart for me is never a destination, but rather a place that I can stop, maybe after a late start, heavy traffic or some other delay altered my travel plan...

I like to stay off the interstates as much as I can, and sometimes a place to catch up on some needed sleep and be relatively safe in a lit area without semi's idling next to me is welcome. Usually the over-night vacuum lot sweepers wake me up, or someone's car alarm goes off, so it certainly is NOT ideal, but rather a safe harbor for a few hours shut-eye. If I can sleep 5-6 hours then that is a PLUS. I never park the camper there during the day, unless I am in the store buying something... it only takes some common sense to know what is right and could be encouraged/tolerated by the corporation/local manager and local law enforcement. Common sense though is sometimes hard to come by these days.

Walmart and other overnight stop retailers/restaurants are NOT campgrounds and I would expect to be kicked out/hassled by a cop if I treated it like one.

All Walmarts need to at least have access for tractor trailers to deliver the goods and these lanes almost always connect to the parking lot somehow. I suppose some Walmart lots can be closed off to all but automotive traffic if they feel that is necessary to restrict heavy traffic from the parking lot.

There is a difference between parking for the night and camping

My stabilizers go down and my slides go out, otherwise my TT is mostly unusable.I do park next to the perimeter and position myself so the slides open up over the grass.

Yep, we do the same. I always ask if it's okay to do so when I ask the manager for permission to stay overnight. Never been a problem. This thread has much ado about nothing

This summer we were in Gettsyburg and the campground told us we had to leave the campground due to flash flood warning. Our group moved to Walmart for the night. They were very hospitable and we all shopped at the store. Everyone was happy and no garbage left behind.

Having never overnight parked in a Walmart, this would be my approach if the need ever arose.

We have camped on our way home from Acadia ME overnight at one Walmart for the last three years. I always ask at customer service to check with the manager. The last time she replied, you were here last year, welcome back.

For Hurricane Irene we stopped at a Walmart in ME & bought 2 new trailer tires while waiting out the wind from the storm. Since it is a parking lot there isn't much to do so we shop. Seems as though we need to find a cheaper place to camp.

I have seen slides out but never trash, stabilizers deployed & no dumping, maybe I have just been lucky.

I agree with some posters that there is a difference between camping and stopping to sleep. It's very unfortunate that some rvers leave trash, but if they leave it in the wallyworld partking lot, they will probably leave it at a cg.

Unfortunately, Both Medford, OR Walmarts have recently posted "No Overnight Parking" signs because of the trouble with people in beat up campers staying for days, pan handling, and leaving a mess.
