Strong winds

We are going on our first camping trip tomorrow and I just heard that the weather forecast is calling for wind starting tonight all they way through tomorrow evening where I live. They care calling for close to 50 mph wind gusts. What do you guys advise as the cut off point for towing in gusty weather?

It would help answer your questions if you posted tow vehicle and trailer information since you don't have it listed in your profile.

Unless you have changed a lot of things since you were on here in 2/2021 you should NOT pull that TT! Big rigs pull off when winds are 50 MPH! Do you still have the Yukon and 26DBH? Youroo!!

Unfortunately they don't realize that they get paid even less when their truck get's blown on it's side. That's when money really starts coming out of their pockets.

With tow vehicle and trailer information or not. I would not be towing a trailer in 50 mph winds.

Hi. Yes, same set up......26dbh and 2014 Yukon. Im hoping that things get better like they did today. We expected rain all day today and nothing happened but a light sprinkle. My daughter was able to have her softball game which we thought was going to be cancelled.

Back to my post.... I did not want to take the risk of driving with high wind speeds. So anything in the 40 to 50 mph should be considered out of the question. Anything under than should be ok? I keep having nightmares after watching a few of those videos where a trailer passes a big rig and it completely loses control and flips. I know it's not the same scenario but I am still questioning what should be considered safe to drive in while towing.

I just called the campground and they confirmed that there is a high wind warning of 25-35 mph winds with 50-60 mph gusts starting around 2pm today until 4am tomorrow.

https://www.google.org/publicalerts/...ource=wweather

I am going to cancel my reservation and move it to another date. It's not worth the risk. Especially since this would be my very first time towing the trailer.

Good call!!
Also I'll add- it makes a difference which way it's blowing.
I once drove across the Texas panhandle with a 40 MPH tail wind. It was only a little scary but I got awesome mileage!!

Yes, good call!

We are west of you in PA and the winds are VERY heavy and headed towards NJ. No way would I be out towing in what we are experiencing here at the moment.

Also speed makes a big difference. I wouldn't intentionally tow at any speed with 40-50MPH winds. A little below that would probably be ok if you can stay on slower backroads.

Still not impressed with winds where I am in NJ today, despite high wind warning, in the valley only getting 14 mph gusts so far.

I’m in Lancaster, PA right now. On my way home from work, between 4:00-4:30, all of the truck stops and diner parking lots were packed with tractor trailers that normally would have been on the road with me.

It’s really windy here.

I'm heading south from the DC area Sat AM looks like we'll be ok. It's supposed to stop around 2am. Going to hitch up this evening and wait out the wind.

Was real windy here in Ohio last night and most of today. Glad we are already at the campground.

Our 3051 was moving a bit even though parked with the levelers down. Hopefully it dies down before it gets to you all and you can get out.

We are out but the furnace is getting a workout too

Thanks everyone. I reschedule for next weekend. As a bonus it's mother's day weekend so a double first for us.

My cut off is 20 MPH, and that is uncomfortable, particularly if on my beam or nose. Tail winds are nice, but rare. I generally managed to get head winds going to the campground and the the front comes through and I have head winds going home. Woe is me. Lol
