There was a truck stop near the house where I would dump and wash out one last time (99% of the time it was just soapy water by then, but that extra cleaning was good insurance).
Another thing is don't let the black tank dry out and do a good wash down inside (either via a tornado head sprayer or one of those wands you shove down the toilet valve opening). Another thing I would do in the old trailer (did not have tornado spray in black tank), was make sure to point the toilet valve wand directly at the area of the sensors on the black tank. Again, not sure how to do this with the grey.

My gray tank has never really been a problem and gauge has been pretty accurate but I don't let food go down the drain either. I find that a "body wash" rather than bar soap in the shower leaves less "residue" in the shower so I assume also less in the tank.
I add a tablet of Walex "ElemOnate" to the gray tank after I empty the gray tank just to make sure there's no nasty odor. I rotate between kitchen, bathroom sinks, and shower drain to make sure the P-traps get the benefit of it's "lemony scent".
So far I've never had issues with the gray tank, either gauge readings or smell.
