Texas State Inspection requirements

I just read on another forum that Texas requires "trailers" to have an annual safety inspection. Several of the posters say they never heard of such a requirement.

In Texas when you purchase a new or used vehicle, a current state inspection sticker is required for the vehicle.

I brought my new FW in Texas and there is no state inspection sticker on it.

Any one else know anything about this?

Go to the Texas Department of Public Safety web site and click on Vehicle Inspection, then click on Inspection Criteria for the Annual Safety Inspection - trailers or Mobile Homes.

Kind of vague information - doesn't say when the sticker is to be placed, etc.

It's there, but it's not followed closely. I never had my old TT inspected, and so far have not had my new one inspected. I do have the original inspection sticker on it though. It's on the kingpin. My Dad had to have his inspected when he was getting his license for delivering trailers. Otherwise, not before and not since.

Ed - that is the drift I am getting from the other forum that I found this on. I have a call into my dealer about this and so far he hasn't called back - wonder why.

Mine (used TT) was on the road side, most forward window.
(Don't know if that is standard placement.....)
I say "WAS" because it was *very* expired & I removed it.
The PO clearly didn't keep it up to date every year.

Yes it's true in the great state of Texas you are required to have a TT safety inspection every year to be placed on the road side forward most window. This insp can be acquired at Rv dealers state wide.

Do you know if the inspection is required to be done prior to taking delivery?

I'm not positive on that but it would only make since that it would be done either before or at delivery to the consumer. Mine was already done when I picked it up. If I were you I would call a couple of dealers just to find out for sure.

I believe all new RV's in Texas are inspected before leaving the dealer's lot. Mine was.

Texas State Inspection

Just had our TT inspected thru the advisement of our dealership that it be done every year for any type of RV. The State of TX inspection sticker in now placed on the bumper instead of the window as done before.

If you pick up a new rv in Texas the dealer should inspect it and place the sticker on it and you are required to have it inspected every year.

We bought our RV in February, and were told about the sticker when we picked it up.

Our dealer said they do not do the inspectioins. I asked where I was supposed to go, and he pointed to a truck (as in 18-wheeler tractor) repair shop next door.

He said the law had been in place several years now. We never had our previous 5th wheel inspected, and were never stopped or questioned about its absence by law enforcement.

Odd that a Texas RV dealer does not have someone on staff that can perform the required annual safety inspection for RV's?

What are they inspecting? Tires? Propane Tanks? Gas lines?

EDIT: This what they inspect for according to the TxDPS site http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/rsd/vi/...htm#windshield:

Those don't sound like TT issues, which is what I thought the OP was talking about.
