That bath finally happened to me

Got back RV from dealer service and noticed the waste tanks were near full.

I checked the valve handles before removing the end cap. All of a sudden it was too late. Never had a chance to hook up the hose. [emoji15]

I don’t recall anyone doing #2 in there but I was covered. And it stunk.

I have the Valtera valve but it doesn’t clear the rear fender so I can’t use it. 🤨

Yuk.

Sounds like the black tank valve isn’t valving correctly.?. That stinks! 😀 (punny)
Those valves are one of the things I wish the manufacturers would pay more attention to.
It’s probably no consolation but I took a grey water bath the other day when my indestructible waste hose came apart. Both slides were out so I had to crawl underneath, lying on the gravel, I reached up, pulled the grey tank valve, and the hose came apart, showering me with grey tank water. lol oh well. I suppose it could have been worse. 😝

Learned the first year drips plus can escape when removing the cap from the sewer line.

Learned to check the valves to be sure they are closed,

I put a bucket under the cap when removing and go slow. Stuff happens.

My hose is set up before I hook to the rv.

that "poop on you" is a old commercial airline trick . Put on cap ,,,pull valve . close valve. you have to remove cap to attach hose .

I ALWAYS check to make sure my valves are closed before removing the cap. I've heard stories about nefarious individuals opening waste valves on unsuspecting RVers.

The valves looked closed and I pushed on them. Maybe not hard enough or something was blocking it.

I was trying to get the hose on while the dirty water was passing by a “closed” valve. I pushed hard on the valve. Finally gave up and slowly opened the valve.

I added a short gate valve to the end of my pipes. So now I have a redundant valve in case the individual tank valves fail. And any fluids that make it past the added valve are minimized since there is not much volume between the valve and the cap.
It also allows me to balance the levels between my galley tank and the grey water tank. I close the added valve and open the grey water valves and let the levels equalize.

A little insurance against surprises. https://www.amazon.com/Camco-Sewer-H...12488704&psc=1

Even better: https://www.amazon.com/Camco-Holding...omotive&sr=1-3 ...because, what do you do if the clear adapter is full?

What's a "short gate valve"? Can you do a pic? That sounds like a great idea.

its stories like this and kids pulling the handle with the cap closed that make me thankful that we have two factory installed waste gates on our black tank.

did the dealer use and fill your black tank? I have heard stories like that and when called out the dealer denied it up and down, only to have their parking lot covered in whatever they filled the black tank with when the camper owner opened the valve.

Valterra T58 Twist-on waste valve

Walmart has them for around $25, I am sure Amazon has something similar

I think “gate” is not the right word, but at the moment I can’t think of the name of this kind of valve.

Man I didn't even know that was a "thing" - kids pulling the handles. All I can say, I better never catch one doing that! I can't imagine getting "the bath".......and hopefully never will.

I've always heard it referred to as a blade valve.

I'm not sure it is a thing.

I've read where folks are concerned about someone pulling the waste valves, someone pulling the hitch handle (5th wheel) someone pulling the tongue latch, someone pulling the breakaway pin, someone unplugging the 7 pin connector, someone putting down the electric stabilizers, someone stealing the TPMS sensors, someone stealing the spare tire, someone putting sand/dangerous chemicals in a gravity fresh water fill, someone stealing their license plate, etc. while traveling.

Camping is supposed to be fun.
There are an awful lot of folks worrying about things that likely will not happen.

The R/V industry has always referred to it as a "fullway termination valve".
Talk about an odd name...

I have that but there is insufficient clearance between the sewer pipe end and the rear fender. The dump pipe terminates under the RV near the end cap. Hidden by the fiberglass fender.

I have to get on my knees to remove the cap. So I was immediately down stream of the poop storm.

Yep,
Never had any of the above happen, ever.
However I did have the license plate sticker that shows when registration expires stolen one time.
Officer was very nice in explaining procedure for getting replacement. No fines involved.
