The Future of RVing?

Could one of these be on the road soon?

As long as you are on straight road. I don't see how it can turn.

Yes, it will be made by the government and will be 100% electric/solar powered, with a range of 15 miles and a top speed of 23 mph. JK, the answer is "No."

First things first. Is it a Decepticon or an Autobot?

Seriously, it is an interesting concept.

I think the future of RV's will be a move to more automotive like construction. Super lightweight materials, monocoque construction instead of heavy frames, etc. That would probably require a complete revamp of the industry business model and make them much more expensive, but maybe better quality. Could you make a decent travel trailer from blown polystyrene with carbon fiber elements and spray foam insulation? I can see a million ways to make RV's lighter and more reliable, but they would be completely foreign to todays typical buyer. Would you buy a plastic egg to camp in?

LOL, we did camp in a plastic egg for 3 years (13' Trillium 1972) until it just got too small. Still, it was 40 years old and I wonder how many of today's trailers will still be going strong in 2052? Good times in our little egg, and not much to go wrong.

Yeah, you can still buy a Casita or a Scamp - they are pretty cool, but crude.

But what about a 30 foot egg, with automotive fit and finish? What if you could make it 3500 lbs? And as thermally efficient as a house?

All I need is about a billion $ in seed money to make it a reality!

I like the concept...be willing to throw $500B of taxpayers money to R&D it, we'd get a lot more out of that project than the solar panel escapade!
