Many of these trucks are customized RVs, with tandem drivers, mostly spouses, so that they can basically drive a 24 hours day, if needed.
One I met at the Cummins dealer/shop in Ft Wayne, In. told me that they get an email or text whenever a delivery is available - they have a certain time, maybe 30 mins, to either accept it, or decline it, depending on their circumstances. These folks got one as we were chatting, accepting a delivery to drive to Chicago to pick up, and delivery to New Orleans, within a 24 hour window. I believe it was a single pallet of specialized critical medical equipment.

These folks probably wanted to take a few days off, or a weekend, and just relax a little between runs. Nice.

Thanks. It's interesting to hear how the world works.

That fish-eye lens is really distorting that truck's dimensions. Think I'm getting vertigo just looking at it.

No, it wasn't photo shopped. Was a land rover. Guess they like hunting/off roading!

Cougar makes some 1/2 Ton towable 5th wheels.

As long as you were careful loading the truck and it you would be fine.

I agree I wasn't beating him up. The truck looks to handle it well. It just has a very short bed.

Just because they call them half ton towable doesnít make it wise to tow them with any half ton. Half tons vary greatly in their capabilities depending on how they are equipped by the factory. One member here has an F-150 with the Heavy Duty Payload package that gives him a payload higher than my F-250! On the other end of the scale are half tons with a payload in the 1300# range. I donít know whether or not the HD Payload package includes massive brakes like on my F-250 though.

Saw this setup at a Flying J truck stop on the way to the campground. I donít think the photo adequately shows how tongue-high he really was!

My 1/2 ton's payload was only 1150#, same as DW's minivan. The Rambox option really cuts into the payload. My F250's payload is 2949, so almost 1800# more payload, and the top 'theoretical' payloads on some of the 1/2 tons with HDPP can even beat that. But that required too many concessions. With the 3/4, I get my Crew Cab, 4x4, etc, and still have the capability to tow a '1/2 ton towable' fifth wheel.

Zooming in on the photo, it looks like he just needs to flip the shank to get the drop he needs. Unless this was setup for a smaller vehicle, and he was just borrowing it for the weekend, that's just being lazy.

All that just for the sake of getting a different receiver hitch. I'll bet I've got at least half a dozen different setups, most with interchangeable balls and even some that are adjustable just so I can make sure the towee is level.

Also, I believe some shipments are sensitive and/or very valuable and the driver(s) can not leave the close proximity of their truck until the load has been delivered.
