Feb 04, 2019; +2c (36f) 24 hours later it was back to normal -16c (+3f). Steady drizzle all day. The reason to come in was to remove some of the deeper snow from roof tops (up to 1.5m (5') where drifted) I made two 16km round trips this morning to pick-up the 2 guys who removed the snow, we all left at 6pm in one trip!!!

Yesterday there was over a metre (3+ft) of snow on the ground; a metre of ice on the lake, in a little over 3 months guests will be swimming in the lake. In 2018, ice-out was May 07, by Nov 02 the lake froze over completely. First time in my 16 years here I have seen the lake open for less the 6 months; and we're in Central Ontario at 46 degrees north latitude.
For you down south people, the open water at the 40m dock is due to bubblers which keep the water open to prevent the ice from tearing the dock apart.

Note, Winter in the Wild is this coming weekend, Feb 26, Ontario's first long weekend of the year. A winter experience at the only campground, Mew Lake, open all winter in Algonquin; and yes, people do camp in tents, TTs, MHs and even quinzees.

Winter in the Wild Festival | Algonquin Provincial Park | The Friends of Algonquin Park
Great to hear about travels in our great Provincial Park system in Ontario! We toured Mew Lake last fall and sadly 40 ft 13 ft 3 inch fifth wheel has limited spots but we are going to try some day soon! Enjoy winter!

So did I. My family rented tents in the tent village for a bunch of years. I fondly remember the "Chicken Fat" exercise sessions in the morning and dances and ice cream at the canteen every evening...

How funny! We ‘lived’ most of the summers there in our own tents. Watched tv out of the wooden boxes at the playground or the movie nights at the tennis courts, the campfires the city provided-started with diesel or kerosene, dances and paddle boats-and the outhouses....LOL. Great times as a kid. Late 50’s-early 70’s, with occasional trips elsewhere.

Dad was a fireman, commuted back and forth some of the times-car pooled with other city employees at times. I thought it was like a motel when a friend invited me for 3 weeks in one of the city tents!

Just spent the past 2 weekends at Sertoma Youth ranch outside of Brooksville, FL.

Began our time with the Celtic Family Jamboree (see 2019 campsites for pics) but this past weekend at Broken String Fling we had cub scouts moving up, an invasion of the Skoolie Swarm - peeps in modified school buses and after our music fest while fixing up the ranch (see 2019 campsites for pics) the 100th anniversary Tin Can tourists started moving in.

Tin Can Tourist Open house will be Feb 23 from 10 am - 3 pm & only $5 / carload to tour. My last pic (with Betty Boop in front) is for sale & expected to top $100K !

Love the pink Metropolitan. My brother had a red one in the mid-60's.

Maybe they wanted their cats to teach old dogs new tricks!?

Or, they brought in the cats so the dogs have something to chase?

If the dogs catch them. Would it be CATastrophic?

Someone posted a similar pic a year or two ago (I thought in this thread), but I was unable to find it.

Here's their website.
