If this is the right vehicle (and it looks like it is), I actually know the people that are building it. He was working on it all winter last year and I thought finished it into a camper this past spring.

It's only illegal if he runs the lights (which are disconnected). Otherwise, it's totally legal.

It's a young couple that just got married and wanted to go camping. I know when I was that age, I didn't have the ability to buy a camper so we had to rough it out in a tent. Really, what's the difference between this and converting a panel van.. which is all the rage right now. Don't believe me? Look it up on YouTube. I applaud this guy for his handiwork and thriftiness.

I really hate this thread at times and wonder why they haven't shut it down yet. Posts like this make my blood boil. This entire thread is devoted to pointing a finger and laughing at someone else. Not everyone has the resources to buy a new camper.

FWIW, I didn't take it, or any of it, that way. Pointing finger, yes. Laughing..... Only maybe. I'd take it as a badge of honor to be in this thread. Besides, if you can't laugh at yourself....

The post you quoted didn't do that at all. It was just a picture with a comment on where they saw it.

And I would argue that this entire thread is definitely NOT devoted to pointing and laughing at anyone. Most of the posts I've read (and I've even posted a few myself) are just interesting things people see and want to share.

The post I quoted was the one that kicked off the comments that followed.

Under Thread Tools there is an option to Ignore This Thread.

I don’t plan on using it myself. I find many of the pictures interesting. Some are laughable. Most are not.

Geez. All I did was post a picture of an interesting rig a couple of sites over from us.

First post after that was roughly 'you know those lights are illegal if they're turned on.' Way to go Debbie Downer.

Personally, I think it's a pretty creative take on a rig. Maybe a few practicality problems in converting it from its original purpose to a camper, but it's a great base platform to start from. Sort of like the line from a popular movie - 'It's got a cop motor, a 440 cubic inch plant. It's got cop tires, cop suspension, cop shocks. It's a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas.' Yes, I just dated myself.

Put a six pack on the 440 cu in motor and you are cranking out 390 HP. Helps to junk the factory distributor for an Excel dual point distributor set-up on a distributor machine for proper advance and add an excel coil/wires too.

I didn't mention a flex fan, headers and glass pack mufflers. ;-)

Team that use to be in the Big 8 and Big 12...now in the Big 10, use to win a lot of games, but now they don't and their coach is a former player.

Born and raised in Husker Land, but haven't really been a fan since the Bob Devaney days.

Not a fan of any of the 'ball sports' some go ga ga over so have no idea what the big 8 - 12 - 10 would be and don't care. Thanks anyway
