No rear steps on the camper, so they used a small paintinf scaffold and a plastic milk case, look at it, close, closer, closest, LOL...Click image for larger version

Possibly but as you turn with a tailgate down, the corner of the gate moves closer the center of the 5th wheel. The damage seems a bit far outboard for a tailgate. Could have been dually fenders on a very tight u-turn.

Or... someone simply ran into it with something else.

Looks like tree bark residue in the dent. Possible hit a stump?

In my early days I used a milk crate with a plywood platform resting on it. Worked great for me, but when a buddy stepped down from the camper, lost his balance when he stepped on the edge of the crate instead of the center and took a hard tumble, I went out and got a proper folding platform.

Good observation, perhaps it was a tree stump.

At least the landing gear are there. I wish I had a picture I saw in a campground where there were cinder blocks used instead of landing gear.

A huge 5th wheel in the handicap site next to us one time made use of both metal landing gear AND cinder blocks. You should have witnessed the commotion when the left front cinder block shattered into many fragments!

Saw damage like this one time while walking through a dealers repair lot. It appeared a deer attempted to run between the truck and 5th wheel. There was deer hair stuck in all the crevices!

Deer damage was going to be my guess too. I've never hit one with our many campers but I have nailed 14 deer while driving to and from work these many years. They seem to like me! Lol!

No deer where I live, but we do have moose. Hit one of them and your rig is totaled. If you hit one with a small car chances are you won't survive.

I'm sure the gun tube and the turret attract a lot of attention going down the road.
