I don't think it really matters anyway. Nobody in their right mind would take the spot next to them.

Bowlus Road Chief

At the Pismo Coast Village 2017 Vintage Trailer Rally, there was a 1930's Bowlus Road Chief in attendance. I did not know the history of these trailers, but the owner was happy to share. The Bowlus was the first riveted aluminum travel trailer, designed by Hawley Bowlus, who had previously worked for Ryan Aircraft and helped design and build the Spirit of St. Louis. Bowlus built about 80 of these trailers before going bankrupt during the depression. One of his salesman was Wally Byam who bought the remaining trailers at the bankruptcy sale, sold them, then founded his own trailer manufacturing company - Airstream.

If you haven't been to a vintage trailer rally, I encourage you to visit one. Lots of fun and the history of the RV industry on display is amazing.

So you need a roof?

This thing has been up and down the highway a few times. A-framed asphalt shingled roof. A\C was deleted and a window unit was installed. (not shown)Click image for larger version

It is a shame though, I hear great things about the Cummins & Aisin combo.
Hideous looks???

Hardly!!!

I'm not sure what is more embarrassing, the trucks or the owners that are proud of them.

Most people who don't like the dodge trucks are usually the ones who can't afford one

How can you not afford a Dodge truck?????

Most of those owners can't even afford to opt for the high dollar option.............the muffler.

The owner told me that there were not many of the original 80 Road Chiefs left, but a fully restored one had recently sold at an auction for about $135,000.

Two years ago when I was shopping for a new truck, the bullwinkle Fiats were the least expensive.

I guess some folks just don't like the mass produced units so they go with a custom unit.

We met a couple in an RV park a few years back that were snowbirding in a Scamp trailer. You really have to get along with your partner to be able to do that.
