And train drivers in the Goshen area get some sort of gratification from blowing their horns after the sun goes down.
That is the only explanation I can find.

You might be right, but I really don't think they give a damn about FROGS, the reason I have been told was do to the intersections on both ends of the fair grounds, they are required to toot that horn 3xs at the intersections and the layout requires that in a 1/4 mile there are 2 , could be b.s. but it seams to be the reason. BUT MAYBE they just don't like frogs.😂😂[emoji106]

My wife’s new 2017 Toyota RAV4 was built in Woodstock, Ontario. It’s a great thing to be able to buy a quality vehicle and support the local economy.

That is true, supposed to be 2 short, 1 long, the long one is to be held until the engine passes the crossing. Some communities are passing a No Whistle ordinance.

If my city did that the re would just slow the trains through town to walking speed. The mile-long coal and oil carrying trains would stop cross town traffic for hours. Especially if several trains passed through one after the other.
There isn't a single over/underpass in a 3 mile stretch with trains regularly isolating most of the city from the freeway.
Years ago war broke out between city and re. City cops would clock trains with radar and if exceeding 35 mph they'd order the bridgetender to open the rr bridge at the S end of town then cite the engineer while his train was stopped.
Gov stepped and made both sides stand down.

I went to school for years to earn the title Engineer. When you can get a BS in train driving, then I will call them Engineers.
Tim
P.S. I once spent hours explaining that to one of the Delta waitresses working my flight to L.A.

In England, they're "drivers."
In construction, the guys running the construction equipment are called Operating Engineers. But they have no engineering degree.

Our resort is 1/2 mile from a main east / west cross country line here in Casa Grande and I hear two long, one short, and one long for a crossing whistle. Then two shorts when someone is working on the rails. Laying in bed I can tell you if it's east bound or west bound.

Ya right. Don't think these folks would care to be called car drivers as they have no steering wheels They go thought more training than you think. Like pilots they do simulator training. Oh and BTW I'll bet some have degrees in engineering. Later RJD

“Engineer” is a misnomer in many titles. No disrespect to the very skilled and well-trained individuals like “train engineers” and “sanitary engineers” but they are not professional engineers and those titles should be retired. At least those guys have some good technical qualifications. The term “Doctor” on the other hand is shamefully misused. For example, Gary Bunzer uses the title “RV Doctor”. There is a company called “Rug Doctor”. If you can get a doctoral degree in RV and carpet maintenance then I’ll concede.
