I didn't get a picture.

Where's a Park Ranger when you need one? Idiot
How young were the children?

I guess you didn't grow up on a farm. If you did, you would have rode in the back of a pickup with the field crew, or rode on a flat bed wagon going to or from a hay field, or on the fender of your father's tractor along side your brother/sister.

My point is -If you're not inside a moving vehicle and strapped in with shoulder/lap belts, you assume the parents are idiots. This seems to be the sign of our times. I grew up riding like I described above and actually have fond memories of those times and I survived.

Please don't be so critical.

Growing up in the 50s and 60s. We did so many things, people now a days would have charges filed for child abuse! Much better times!
You are old enough to remember back then! I see you made it!

I can't imagine that's any different than the wagon rides many campgrounds offer these days. Many of them do "haunted" wagon rides in October.

As long as everyone is sitting down and they aren't doing much more than 5 or 10 mph, it's not a big deal.

Even that can be dangerous. About 35 yrs ago, our church was involved in a hay wagon ride. One of the ministers daughters fell off and was run over and killed.

Ill be surprised if that isnt changed due to the death of a child in Lancaster County a yr or so ago, mom driving the truck was dui and went over speed hump and hit the gas in camp ground and all 3 kids fell off the tail gate and hit their heads on the ground.

I doubt it. I'm guessing doc73 is talking about public roads. I'm sure you can do anything you want on private property - like a campground.

DUI says it all. Lancaster PA ~~ think the Amish are belted down in the buggies and wagons? Summers working on the farm I was in the back of more trucks and on open wagons more than inside a vehicle all year. My grandsons like riding in the back of my truck in the summer, better to see the ladies,.,, young boys thinking with hormones.

This is quite common in CG's. Especially if the kids are wet from swimming or water skiing. At 5 or 10 mph sitting down no problem.

From what I've often seen, a lot of folks don't observe the speed limit in CG's. They constantly try to reduce the distance between two points with speed. In those cases those kids were probably safer in that boat then they would be on bicycles.

X2.... we rode in the back of the truck when needed. Worst part about it was the dirt in the eyes. There weren't extended cab/4-door trucks in the day. Room for 3 people only... you did what you had to.

I guess it depends on the design of the wagon. The ones I've been on have always had large railings and/or benches on them making it nearly impossible to accidentally fall out of.

'For sale' signs. Lots of them. But that's for another thread as well.

I wasn't a member at the time, so I can't speak to the design of the wagon, only that it happened. You may be right, that they had a lousy wagon, but I don't know.

Most members who were around then didn't like to talk about it. I think we were there about 10 years before we even heard about it.

Nope won't, I've personally known two people who have been killed after being ejected from a truck bed and seen numerous others end up dead the same way.
