You are correct. The license plate says 78 GMC.

This second one was at least driven to the shop in the last month or so.

What are the odds of 2 of these in the same small town? Not sure how many were actually made. I believe they were built on the Oldsmobile Toronado power train because it was one of only a few front wheel drive units of the day.
You would have a few GM gurus in your area.... although given the current closing I would be afraid of Chevy vandals.
I have always had a soft spot for the gm RVs and also for the Chrysler powered travels.

But does it tow? LOL. We've stayed there a few times on our way down south. Nice convenient overnighter.

I am sure the older couple limped it in. The brake drum was not there when they were setting up. Tires were there when I left but no axle yet. They were setting in lounge chairs with no worries.

I didn't take pictures so as not to embarrass anyone too much....but...this elderly couple was parked next to us in Desoto State park last week in a class C with a really nice Jeep toad.
The man's brother and sister-in-law were in the next spot over in a 42 ft class A and seemed very experienced and were trying to show the class C folks how camping was done. The first couple had just bought the small Jayco motorhome where it had been in storage for 2 years.
When they hooked up to water, there were leaks from frozen and busted pipes so they were making do with a "chamber pot" and a garden hose. They stayed a couple days and then were going to pull out and head to Cheaha state park. The class A guy was loaded up and had his 425 hp cummins cranked and waiting. Class C guy couldn't get his electric jacks to raise off the ground more than a couple inches. After fooling around for a couple hours the brother in the 42 footer got disgusted because he said the new rv'er had not read ANY of his books or manuals and they left. The Jayco owners called for roadside assistance (only had a plan that called someone, no payment). A couple hours later, 3 guys showed up from an RV place and stayed until that evening. They eventually jumped the connection on each jack and got them raised but the culprit seemed traced to a 12v battery that was only outputting 9.7 volts and may have messed up the main control board. No telling how much their bill $$ was going to be. They paid for another night and decided they would just go back home to Louisiana the next morning.
The following morning the lady pulled the Jeep out onto the road to prepare to hook up. The man pulled the Jayco out of his campsite with the awning out and tore it off on the streetlight pole beside their campsite. We got the few bent pieces that were left pulled down and zip tied to the body so maybe they wouldn't flop around and helped them hook up the jeep. I sure hope they made it back home safely.

Some folks just have too steep a learning curve to dive in and maybe should try another hobby. I felt so sorry for them I could have just cried.

I would have been the good neighbor and tried to help. Even if I spent my whole trip on it and maybe stayed another day if needed. This of course depends on them...if they were shopping for a hand out...that changes it, but that doesn’t sound like the story. Not much of a BIL, but I don’t know the circumstances.

Goes into the story about starting small and working up, but I don’t know the story there either.

Probably someone who transports RV’s. I’m sure that they aren’t allowed to sleep in the units they are transporting.

My dad had to use MASA to transport his motor home and toad from Florida back to New England and the driver stayed in hotels on the way up.

Every family has one of those.....if you know what I mean. I'll just leave it at that.

He probably has little man's syndrome I typically don't park in the truck lot in fear of something happening to my truck it's more of being able to maneuver around the parking lot easier while coming and going

We are back from a recent river cruise in Europe. I was really impressed with the number of RV parks along the way and the number of RV's out and about on the highways. Didn't see a single one with a slide out.

Far cry from 50 years ago when my father was stationed in Germany..... Don't think I ever saw an RV during those 3 years.
