Depends how tight of turn he is doing and how much clearance there is. You must watch as Ive done it before. Later RJD

Some trucks that's easy some not so much. Persoanally I have no need to take the tailgate off and never had a situation the 5r was close enough to hit the bef on a hill.

True, my taigate down only had 2 inches between the trailer and the truck. Not enough to put your hand between.

We went over the proverbial switchback from hell last spring.

Bumped a small bracket from the Anderson hitch release on top of the side trim. Dealer Installed. I moved it 4”.

AN aftermarket plastic tailgate works. The netting in lieu of the tailgate works. But, you loose the rear camera.

It is easy for you and the DW to remove the tailgate and reinstall it.

Removing the tailgate wont do a bit of good. What about the sides where the top of the tailgate meets? That part will contact well before the tailgate does. What the OP describes, the rear corners of the bed are close to making contact when turning down that ramp.

Seriously? You've been around here too long to be making trolling comments like that. Take it offline.

OP said 180 turn coming in so I imagine good possibility of tight turn on way out
