Trailer Security

What do you guys do to secure your trailer when you aren't going to be around for awhile other than lock the door. I am a seasonal camper and everyone looks out for each other for the most part, but how do some of you approach keeping your rig from sprouting legs when it's unattended for days or even weeks at a time? I have seen some of these coupler locks etc and they all seem really easy to remove.

Lock it up and make sure the insurance premium is paid up before heading out.

IF someone wants it,they'll have it.Locks do one thing only. They keep a honest person honest.A big screwdriver and you can be in the front door in a few seconds. You can pop the locks on the basements just as easy. Most of the locks for the pin would have to be knocked off or at least some noise would be made cutting them off. Battery powered tools have made the crooks job much to easy.Hopefully your neighbors will keep a eye and ear out.

Trailer Security

I bought a cheapy wireless motion detector. I bought originally to make sure my little one didn't sneak out the front door in the middle of the night but it works good for scare em alarm. Has 2 settings; motion detector that chirps like walking in a dept store and alarm that sets off a siren. I used chirp for the little one and alarm for security. It has a wireless remote that you can arm it from outside the camper and if anything moves in the living area it sets off a pretty loud alarm. Given, you can walk over and turn the power switch off on it but my guess is it would scare someone off pretty quickly.

This isn't the one I have but its similar. Really inexpensive.

As far as securing the camper. I have a pad lock I put on my pin box tripod but bolt cutters would snap right through it. I think your more dependent on the campground and neighbors if you're leaving unattended for weeks.

I lock a spare hitch ball in the receiver on the TT and lock it with a "shank less lock" which has no place for bolt cutters to get a grip. The key slot is in the end. It ain't foolproof, but it would take a lot of work and noise to remove.

I use a lock on the receiver latch and a lock with a built in ball/ securing mechanism. I am also going to use a spare cable and lock through 2 of the rims. While it's true "if somebody wants it bad enough" I am going to make it as difficult and time consuming as possible.

Good idea.
I have spare receivers, locks and cables laying around.
Can't hurt.

P.S. and insurance.

Simplesafe alarm system has a wireless alarm system that is monitored by a company. Check it out it will give peace when you are away.
