Moot point for me. My truck requires ULSD fuel and that's not available in many parts of Mexico. If I want to visit Mexico I'll stick with flying to resorts.

I agree, there are safe spots in Mexico. IF you can fly there. The problem is usually driving there.

Yup. Areas like Cancun and Cozumel have a heavy presence creating a virtual fortress around the tourist areas. The military is serious about who and what conduct makes it into those zones. You get outside of that you are entering a 3rd world war zone at times. Night and day.

We've been pulling our TT with a 2007 GMC Sierra Duramax down to Rincon De-Guayabitos just north of Puerto Vallarta for 8 years. We've traveled alone and with others and have never had a problem with anyone. On the contrary we have had problems with wheel bearings on the trailer. Mexicans have stopped to help us, not rob us. As the one post stated checkout "On the Road in Mexico" on facebook. There is a page there for "Travel Buddies" where you can meet up with people on the U.S. side and travel together. As for travel anywhere you should always use caution, whether it be in the U.S., Canada or Mexico.

We have been to some of the most remote towns in Baja on offroad motorcycles, from the border down to Cabo, even passing thru La Paz on a Saturday night. We have never had any problems, we have only met the nicest people. Everyone has been genuinely helpful anytime we asked.

My husband traveled 5 days a week for 9 years into a border town to work and is alive to tell about it. He has seen some things and was one time escorted out of told to leave early because there was a gun fight brewing or was locked down at work. Those were rare exceptions. You just have to keep your wits about you.

I have driven thousands and thousands of miles in Mexico over the last 6 years and have never had a problem. The people that say how bad it is are the people that have bought into the media hipe. Most all of the bad things you read or hear about in Mexico is somehow related to drugs. People selling or buying or running drugs. In the states you could be watching a movie in a theater or going to colledge and get killed for no reason at all. It's funny that when you are in Mexico and you watch the news on TV about all the killings in the states the locals say they would be afraid to go to the states.
