Travel Trailer + F150 + Golf Cart = ???

Hello Everyone,

I believe I did my purchases in the wrong order. In 2016 I purchased my Ford F150 Super Crew 5.5' bed with 2.7L EcoBoost and 3.55" rear. Then in 2017 I bought my 2018 Tracer Air285 and really fell in love with camping. Now I'd like to add a battery powered golf cart (4+ passenger) to our bag of tricks. I've looked online and asked around and I cannot find a way to make this happen without making a major purchase (New truck or camper) which isn't in the cards. Can you make any reasonable suggestions? My towing capacity is 7500lbs and my trailer is 6100lbs dry.

Thanks for all your support!

You're at your limit already, if not over. A golf car that size alone is around 1k pounds.

Hi,
I'm not part of the weight police, in fact a advocate to use 1/2 ton pick ups up to it's max stated capacity but if I'm not wrong, your tracer have 600lbs tongue weight when dry and a 4 seater EZGO have a weight of 1200lbs, so my question is: What is the payload capacity of your truck?

With 1800lbs of cargo alone you need a truck with more than 2500lbs of payload capacity...

That being said, TO ME, it seems way more easy to rent the Golf cart....

I own a 2014 3.5 Ecoboost CC SB 4x4 with Max Tow package and 1828lbs of payload capacity.
I also own a TracerAir 255.

NO way will your 2.7 have enough payload and power for all of that.

You need a bigger truck or forget the golf cart.

AS others have mentioned the weight of the golf cart. But also keep in mind the length of the golf cart as well. Ours with a rear seat is close to 9 feet in length.

Good Luck !!!

The only suggestion that comes to mind is to take 2 vehicles and put the cart on a small utility trailer.

Otherwise, yeah- bigger truck with more payload and axle weight available OR toy hauler trailer. Both of which hurt the wallet a whole lot more than a second driver + cheap trailer.

When I pulled a TT , I adj to add weight to front axle slightly otherwise steering is affected . I would ask 25% of what ?

(Actually, have we crossed threads? This doesn't seem to match the topic at hand. And seems more like this response fits this thread: http://www.forestriverforums.com/for...ml#post1794761)

There was a recent thread on it (that I only skimmed, honestly):
http://www.forestriverforums.com/for...dh-158275.html

This is just me from what I'm reading- not suggesting it either way, but 25% of what you removed from it.

So, if it was 3000 lbs. and it became 2900 lbs. that you would want the WDH adjusted so that it's 2925 lbs.

At least, that's my simpleton understanding.

With what you got there is no place for the golf cart in the equation. The rear axle of that F150 will only take so much.

Try this

We have a similar situation. Look at a Cricket golf cart. Not as big as a full size cart but convenient and rides in the bed of our truck under the cap.

you cant double tow with a tt. looks like you need a 5th wheel or a toy hauler. no way you could put a golf cart in or on the back of a 1/2 ton truck and pull what you are pulling. Coming from a weight police hater who towed a 8k pound 5th wheel with a 1/2 ram just fine.

I say load it and scale it and if in doubt stop at the state police barracks and ask

We use the cricket and only weights 300# and is capable of carring 4 people and fits in the bed of a pick up.

Heck, I had to do this when we first bought our Roo hybrid and all I had to tow it with was a Toyota Tacoma. Just myself and one of my kids had me right at the Tacoma’s GVWR. We have a family of 5 and sometimes my Mom would come with us, so we took 2 vehicles.

I agree that this is the OP’s only option if upgrading the pickup is not in the cards.

Actually, I believe it depends on the state. Louisiana, for instance, is one that does not require the first trailer be a fifth wheel. I’m sure there are more.

And many states on the east coast (and other areas) that do not allow double towing at all...

My former neighbor used to double tow with a TT in Colorado.

Not sure if it was legal...but he did it for at least two years before they moved away.

Another option...bicycles!
