Travel trailer with built in generator

My parents currently have a Class C that they have almost decided isn't big enough because they are taking the grandkids camping some. So, they're now considering a TT and new TV, but they really like the built in generator of the Class C. So, are there any NON toy hauler travel trailer lines that offer a generator? I know it would have to be an LP rig, but I can't think of any right off hand that even offer it as an option??? They also want auto leveling- and I'm pretty sure you can add an aftermarket electric leveling system to a TT, but it would obviously be much more cost effective if it were factory installed.

If I am not mistaken I remember seeing where the Northwoods Arctic Fox, Nash Travel Trailers have the option of a built in generator.

dustman, it isn't built in but you're pretty handy.

I camped next to a fellow who had a custom generator enclosure built that contains his battery/ies, propane cylinders, and a generator. He then exhausts the output from the generator to the outside (he actually had it going to a genturi-like stack but he said that it didn't work as well as he would have liked and usually just exhausts off to the side of the camper.

You can order most fivers with a built in genny, but I have no idea about TTs. But I do know most built in options are not worth the expense. Most folks I know opt to buy portable generators for far less than built in.

1. Think I saw someone else mention the Arctic Fox on another forum, so I'll have to check that out.

2. Haven't ruled out doing something custom!

3. Definitely would be a little pricey, but being easy is a necessity. They want something as small and easy to use as possible (entire rig-wise, I mean). Portable generators have to be hauled and run under some type of weather protection. They tend to only run for a few hours before needing refueling. They really want something that is just there and can be switched on, just like the Class C.

Portable generators can be "installed" on an RV. Gasoline can be converted to run on LP, lose a bit of wattage so size accordingly.

Yes, but there would need to be some customization. You would need to keep it out of the elements like what Ep showed. I know Champion makes some LP generators with remote start that would be a good choice for something custom.

Honda makes a diamond plate storage box for their genny's. I'm too cheap so we built our own waterproof quiet box for the genny which sets in the rear of the tow veehickle, bolted through the 5th wheel hole in the bed, through the frame. We put an electrical inlet on the front of the TT for the genny.

We can be plugged in with the genny running while rolling down the road so the TT stays nice and cool for when we arrive.

Neat installation, except for the fact that you NEVER, EVER, build a propane locker with a source of ignition therein. We have not one but multiple sources: battery, generator, miscellaneous wiring, etc. This is a bomb. In addition, I don't see a propane low vent. Any propane locker must have a ventilation opening at the bottom to let escape any leaked gases. If the owner is reading, please, please, disassemble this. I know you probably spend a lot of time and money on it, and I do admire the craftsmanship, but this is a serious safety hazard.

Houston Remodeler-- that is a neat set up, so is the one you pictured Doug. Mine is an Onan 4K built in the fiver (a toyhauler)-- so it runs on gas from the extra tank. If it ever dies, I believe I will install an inverter genny in its place and save a fair amount of weight.
Good luck Op!

Boom

ELGATOF, is correct, battery, LP tanks, generator with gasoline fumes, BOOM!! That is a bomb waiting to go off and then that will ignite the tow vehicle gas tank.
