Tree limb damage

While camping at Prairie Creek Camp Ground this weekend, a wind storm blew up that last most of the weekend. Most of Alabama and the Southeast had wind damage.
Our Surveyor did not escape. The tree on the back of our camp site lost a limb about 30 feet up and 30-35 feet long Saturday afternoon and it landed on top of our trailer. It's main impact was where the roof and side wall meet, center of the slide opening, The weakest section. The limb went through the roof and sliced through the aluminum frame going INTO the side wall causing the the side wall to separate. The outside fiberglass cracked above the slide, the gutter channel buckled, About a 3 foot square area of the roof is indented. There is a smaller hole through the wood decking over the bedroom area and four tears in the rubber roof.
Inside, the wall above the slide is buckled in two places, The slide-out trim frame was forced up through the ceiling panel. There is a 3/4 inch "sag" in the ceiling over the slide-out from the wall to the middle of the camper.
No one was hurt, and the slide out closed but didn't seal. The camper is home and covered . We're waiting on the adjuster now but I don't think she will be fix.

The hole left is only about the size of a tennis ball but with the aluminum frame cut into I'm not sure what they will say.

Glad no one was hurt...with regards to the trailer...never fun but that is what we have insurance for! Always think about that when we park near big old trees.

I Fear that most being from Washington state, and Having a Giant Red Ceder in my back yard that i Park under,.. But as Tom said, thank god no one was Hurt and thanks for Insurance also

The Flamingo Window was ordered from Kathy at rv stained glass.com She is great to work with both on line and over the phone. My window was the first Flamingo that she ever made.

Insurance company has decided to repair our camper. $7872.46 in damages. We are taking it to our dealer tomorrow and find out if they are able to do the work or not and if so, how long it will take them. I guess you guys will have to do enough camping this summer for us too.

Sorry to hear about your TT and glad to hear no one was hurt. I feel for you.

I know what it's like to go through the camping season without a TT. I had a TT with aluminum siding that had to be replaced on the front and the curb side because of hail damage. Took them 3 months, from the 1st week in June to the 2nd week in September.

One thing you might consider. In my case the adjuster came out, looked at our TT, then gave me a check for approx. $3,250. When I took it to the dealer they looked at it and came to an amount of approx. $7,200. A big difference. They turned it in to the insurance company and they did take care of everything, but I often wondered if the TT would have been totaled (TT value approx. 12-13K at the time) had they had that figure from the beginning. The dealer told me that wasn't uncommon because most adjusters don't know the real costs of repairing RV's.

Just thought you might check into that before you cash that check.

A lot of the parts needed for the repairs are listed by the adjuster and don't have a cost , so they aren't figured into the estimate. The estimate also has the Labor charges off by 10.00 dollars an hour, which is an extra $3000 by itself. Just the extra labor charge will push the repair well over $10K, pay off is $16,300. I really expect them to come back and offer to total it over a "tennis ball" size hole that severed the top rail frame, and separated the wall.

An update on the repair of our Surveyor:
The outside wall has been repaired and new gel-coat, the bent roof beam has been replaced and new plywood decking put on, The new rubber roof, new rain channels on both sides. Work on the inside should be completed next week with the replacement of busted ceiling panel and A/C remounted. Two sets of cabinets have to come out to replace the panel, so those have to be rehung. There is still some chalking to do after the roof cures(That should be done today). And then they will realign the slide-out to be sure the seal is tight. They are even going to clean it inside and out for us when they're done.

That's great that they got so much completed. Have they given you a completion date yet? Looks very promising that you won't miss too much of the summer.

We were told that we may be able to pick it up this Saturday. I'm not going to be in a hurry because I don't want THEM to be in a hurry. I know that they need to free up the space in the shop for an even larger rebuild job.
They have a motor home with $60K in damages to start working on. That kind of makes mine seem like a "door ding".

Was I surprised when I read the last post that your RV has been repaired. By the pictures and the cost, I was sure it would be totaled.
Sort of makes you smile in a way that you are getting your rv back.
