Truck window vent shades

I had vent shades on my old truck for 14 years and loved them.
They were the kind that stuck on the paint just above the window using 3m trim tape. It worked well.

Now days there are vent shades that
fit in the window channel and others that stick on.
Anyone with the in the channel type got any good bad comments??
I had my front windows tinted and wonder if the in the channel shade might cause the window to be tight or bind at the top?

Need real world "I've got them" advice!
Thanks!

I had the channel ones on my tacoma. They fit just fine, no binding and they also had the 3m trim tape on as well. Those suckers weren't going anywhere. Nice and rigid too.

I got the ones sold @ Advance Auto. They did fit really tight in the window track but did not hurt the tint at all. 6 years later the driver side needs new tape but it still stays in the track OK. I rarely open the window all the way so its fine to me.

I've had the GM branded variety w/ 3M tape on mine since it was new in 2004. They are still attached like the day I put them on. They have held up to snow, sustained sub-zero temps and numerous car washes. Interestingly enough, they are manufactured by AVS for GM. The only difference is that they have the GM logo on them.

I tried the VentShade in-track shades on my last truck. They bulged the track just enough that the auto-up function didn't let the window go all the way up. The window then whistled going down the road. You could put the window up that final little bit manually but that defeated the purpose of auto-up. I finally got the stick-on type.

A co-worker had in-track shades and had one blow out at highway speeds with the window down.

When we got this new truck, I bought the stick-on and haven't looked back.

I tried the WeatherTech in channel ones on my f150. However, the "auto up" window technology seems to be very sensitive (you can't turn it off) and the shades interfered with it enough of the time that I gave up and took the shades off.

I have Weathertech in channel ones on my new to me 2014 GMC. Left rear one departed while driving at 50 mph. It seems to me they get loose in the track and rattle. There are clips to hold them up, but not enough of them. My feeling is the in track ones will compromise the seal and create wind noise, which I have. I had the same brand of stick on ones on my last GM truck and liked them. I would go stick on again if I had the choice.

We have the in-channel on both a Chevy 2500 and a Toyota 4-Runner with no issues. We also had the windows tinted. We prefer the cleaner look of the in-channel.

I installed the WeatherTech in-channel style on both our Prius and my 2015 Sierra (front only). No problems at all with either one. WT gives an instruction to run the windows up and down several times to “seat” the deflector. Followed those directions and window operation is as it should be.

Off Subject: Also got WT floor mats for both vehicles; should have done that sooner.; they are great.

Had in channel ones on my 2011 Silverado, had some noise. Have stick on on my 2013 Denali GMC without issues, even been through car wash twice, still there.

I chose the stick on type simply because the in-track shades are too close to the window glass and aren’t conducive to scraping frost and ice off the windows. I presume the further south you live the less this would be an issue.

My 2009 Silverado 2500hd came with weather tech shades on all four windows. It will be ten years old this October and their still holding up just fine.

Do these reduce wind noise? Or does it increase it? My 2017 F 150 has some noise and I’d like to reduce it.
