TT to 5er

I'm considering a switch to a 5ers from my XLR Toy hauler. I've never pulled a 5er before so I could use a few opinions on the following questions. I've got an 11 f350, so I'm assuming most brands and models will be ok weight wise. First question is, does a 5er pull different from a TT? is backing better or worse? What's the effect on mpg between them? Will they wobble in the wind as bad as a TT with WDH? Thinking of trading because I don't ride the Harley as much as I used to but I'm loving this camping thing. So a 5er will offer a lot more living space.
Thanks in advance.

Night and day for the better. I had a 30 foot TT for a few years and this past July I bought a toy hauler 5er. It tows better, feels better, more solid experience, it doesnt throw or jerk me around, and backing it in is easier.

I wish I would have just gotten it first

I have a 2013 Rockwood Ultra lite 34 ft 5th wheel an I pull with a 2500 GMC. Gas mileage is around 9 to 10 mpg. If head wind much less. As far as easier to pull hook up and setting up I think much easier. The other couples that go with us camping all have TT and it may take me 20 min to getting ready and hook to leave and they are 45 min. As far as set up to me its also faster in a 5th wheel. I think because of the 5th wheel it turns easier and is easier to back up but it does take a little to get use to.

Wind can affect all trailers but a 5th wheel with side wind is a little tougher so when it over 20 mile I slow my speed and may pull over an ride it out when its over 25 miles per hour

I also like the extra room and the high ceilings so when set up it feels like a fifth wheel is much larger that a TT.

With the truck you have I am not sure but you should be able to pull any 5th wheel. I now wish I had bought the 3500 so that my next upgrade would only be for the new 5th wheel not truck and trailer. Good luck.

The OP hasn't mentioned whether his F-350 is SRW or DRW... there's a big difference...

I find 5th wheels more stable in every way. You may give up a little fuel milage but it's a much more relaxed pull. SRW or DRW doesn't matter, the 5er still is a better pull.

Much more stable, no need for all that sway bar stuff. It's part of the truck. There's a little learning curve on turns and backing in, but no big deal.

Been towing travel trailers for 25 years. Just got a 5th wheel. Wish I had done it years ago. Much better all around than a travel trailer. Going to have a lot of pin weight on the truck so make sure you are ok if you have a SRW F-350.

I totally agree about 5th wheel towing better. Not to sure about the setup and leaving as I’m quick. I have a TT so I can load up my truck bed with fire wood cause I really like an all day fire.

Burn baby burn.
