Uh Oh!!- Mosquitos

You know it’s going to be a buggy camping trip when you check in and you’re given a written warning and some wipes containing DEET. I haven’t had this happen at any other MO state parks.

That's nice they're doing that for you, because I guess this is the year for ticks.

What park? Im heading to Quiver River State Park tomorrow after work. I have been to 3 Corps campgrounds in MO so far this year and never received anything. Bugs weren't that bad either. Hand full of leaves every now and then on the fire should help! Haha

If it's a state park, it may be policy because of some legislation that was passed...won't find that at a private RV park.

That said, ticks have been bad so far this year in the Mark Twain Nat Forest area. If you venture off of the mowed areas into the tall grass or forest, be careful. I've known people who work outside to wear a flea and tick collar around their ankles on their boots.

I've actually had a tick fall out of a tree onto my shoulder. Couldn't quite believe it, but I'd seen it fall out of the corner of my eye and got the critter before it could dig itself in. Must have hitched a ride on a tree climbing critter.

Did not receive anything at Cuiver River State Park. We might not make it through the weekend!

When we camped at Cuivre River State Park earlier this year the gnats were the biggest problem when sitting outside.

Ticks are horrible in southeast Mo this year. I’ve found ticksnon me so far this year after being at St. Joe , Onondaga, elephant rock, and the shut inns.
