Unwanted after storage items

After putting my camp trailer away for the winter, covered and winterized, I got it out and started my inspections for the coming year of fun. First thing, the power slide went most of the way out and stopped and would not go back in or out. Looking for a blown fuse but it was good. What I found was ALL of the wires at the junktion box were loose. Real loose!! tightened these and the slide works now. Now though, my tongue jack will go up but not down. I am going to have to call the dealer. This trailer is less than a year old. Not feeling real fuzzy right now.

Its a good idea to go through and check all the electrical connections you can get to and the different nuts and screws on a new rig. Your experience is not unique.

If the jack goes up but not down that's most likely the switch. Water can get in and corrode the contacts. Try to clean the switch to get it working again. There are jack covers available but you could also just cover it with a plastic bag and zip tie when storing.

I figured these things (jack) were made to be weatherproof. Good to know. I never covered mine over the winter, hoping it still works!

Waterproof Dry Sack

We use this. Can search for them on Amazon or elsewhere. Just pull it over your electric jack and snap it. Leave it on all the time.

Spray the outside of the switch with WD-40 and operate it several times.

I keep a vinyl cover on mine and also a plastic bucket when at home. Don't believe those commercial covers keep all the water out.

Friend of mine bought one and had it installed at CW. Near season end it quit working. He took it back to CW5 months later and they refused to replace it even though it had a 1 yr warranty. Seems he never covered it and we had some serious rain here and places he camped.

1st mistake..buying from CW
2nd mistake,,not buying a cover for it
3rd mistake.. telling CW it was never covered

Save yourself a lot of headaches ~ just go to the Wallyworld camping section and look for a 'Dry Bag' (like what you put clothes in when boating).
Here at home, I just keep a 5 gal. bucket upside down over the jack & attach bungee cords to keep it on in the wind.

We're on our second one. We just replaced the first one, thinking it was the motor. When it happened on the second one, I did some checking (on the forum!) and found that the switches are notoriously flaky. Called the Mfg (Barker) and they sent me a new switch for free. Even if I had to pay, it would have been under $20, so a good shot. We have covered ours to help keep it dry at all times, too!
