Washington state HOV

anyone on the westside of the mountains in WA? if so have you ever driven your travel trailer or rv in the HOV? my wife and i have looked up the code on HOV lanes and it doesnt state that its not allowed. while she is eager to move to the left im still hesitant to do do. Still new to this forum so if it needs to move to another thread or link let me know.

Official WA State Code Here. According to that, only trucks with GVW of over 10K lbs are restricted. Most states don't include pickup trucks and light trucks as "trucks." And, there is a specific allowance for RVs. This can be corroborated in various articles online ... I read one that featured a Q&A with a state trooper, for example.

So, legally, it looks OK.

The question is one of etiquette. That ends up being very personal and local (i.e., what's happening in the flow of traffic at that location at that time).

I'd be loathe to hold up traffic and would use HOV very sparingly. But, that's your call.

Good luck.

The other thing to look at in WA is whether or not trailers are allowed in the left lanes of travel.

For what it's worth, I've towed my trailer on 5 and 405 in the HOV/carpool lane without issue. I do keep the speed at about 64mph to maintain a good speed with traffic.

The only time I've been hassled is once by a guy on a motorcycle who used some sign language to tell me my lane position wasn't acceptable. In my defense, I was keeping up with the flow of traffic.
