We have had two totes since camping with a TT in the 70's. Used the first one twice or 3 times in all our camping. Bought the second one 40gal, since we upgraded trailers with larger tanks. It has been at least 6 years and it is still new. Stopped carrying it and will only carry when we are going for long stays at campgrounds with no sewer. Gave the old one to a friend who has a small trailer (smaller than the tank) so she can get some use out of it. Problem is, you never know when you "may" need it and I like to be prepared.

If you DO get the Camco, please review it for us after you use it. Thanks.

Waste Water Totes

I have a Thetford 18 gal. tank. Works great for my pop-up. Love how the handle hooks over the ball. But the two small front wheels disintegrated after a couple of years. Bought replacements at TSC (farm type of store). The tread was wider and they were 1 inch taller, but they worked much better. Measure carefully to see what size you need. Some lawnmower tires may work.

I have a 32 gal. Barker with 4 pneumatic tires. The only advantage I see with the Rhino Tote is the integrated ladder hook. Otherwise, I like everything about my Barker just as well or better.

We have a 22 gal 2 wheel Barker. I put the 10 inch pneumatic wheels from Harbor Freight on it. We only use it for our grey water. It works very well for our use.

Ignore the pic it's really is the Camco Rhino 36 gallon tote. Best price I could find for this size.

This is what I use. Dump it once a week for 4 months at a time. Love it. Tow it behind my truck for 1/4 mile each way.

Keep in mind that water weighs 8 pounds per gallon. I use mine to collect grey water when we don't have hookups. I have to lift it up to dump into the outhouse toilets. !5 gallons at 8 pounds equals 120 pounds so pretty big heft. If you are just hauling it to a dump station then no big deal as others have said, be sure you have a safe way of wheeling it. I have a Camco. Works well, and comes with a handle that fits over a hitch ball. I have never used it that way, but looks like it will work. Never used it for blackwater situations.

EDIT: Just realized this is only the 28 gal version.. but still good price for that size as well. Tweety's doesn't carry the 36 gal version.

Luckily, I just realized my waste tanks are only 20g each, so I will be getting the 21g size if I get one at all. Even cheaper! As far as that 36g size, I can't imagine lifting the end of that and dragging it to a hitch. Holy hernia!

Just for FYI. If your worried where to store these big totes, an easily installed swing up ramp type rack can be installed under the trailer near the axels to keep it secured and out of the way from damage.

Kris, check your specs again. Unless the off road package has different waste tanks, than units without the off road package, both your gray and black tanks should be 30 gallons each

Since the family has grown and is off on their own, and I'm now the only one "camping" I don't need a tote. My black tank is good for a couple weeks and where I boondock the native trees appreciate my gray water.

I still have my old tote but the biggest complaint I have with it and all I've seen is that the trailer discharges are often too low to get good flow from holding tank to tote. Can get messy. If I do get back in the "tote" business it will be a tank I can put in the bed of my pickup and I'll use a mascerator pump to transfer from my trailer holding tank and when I get to dump station just let gravity do it's job.

Menards(if you have them in your area) $155 plus tax before $17.05 rebate for 28 gal., 36 is $198 plus tax before $22 rebate.

I, too, am looking for honest reviews of the Camco 36 gallon tote. I am thinking of buying this. I would only use it for gray water, so I think it looks like it would suit our needs.

Thumbs up Waste Water Portable Totes

I received the tote today. I put the parts & covers on, then filled it full if water. Like someone expected, it weighs alot, 8 lbs x 36 gal. 288 pounds when full. I wheeled it over to the pool to empty it. With the large wheels, it moved around easy enough. I could lift it all the up to empty from the same port you would fill it in. There is a side port to empty the tote which looks like it will work great. The air vent made it empty very quickly. I am going to manufacture a front wheel with a wide tread to help move it around when full.
It is bigger than I thought it would be. It weighs 48 lbs empty, and mesuraes
about 42" L x 24" W x 16" H.
All in all, I think this is the one I need. I certainly won't fill it up unless I have to.

Ordered the 15 gallon one today to use for grey water with our A214HW. Have the cassette toilet so I have to make trips to the dump station about every 3-4 days, now I’ll be making 2 trips.

We have the Barker 32 gallon. I believe it was around $200. It's sturdily built. Works well for us at the public parks without full hook ups. I put in a little diluted bleach after I rinse it out because, as someone previously posted, it's very hard to completely empty it. The key is to make sure the outlet is tilted toward the drain at the sewer hose connection. One other thing is to make sure the sewer hose is very securely connected to the tote before opening the RV valve.

You don't have to

You don't have to get the bigger one. Just take more trips, or more frequent trips to the dump station.

We have a 25 gallon tote and two 40 gallon tanks. I usually take three trips:
  • All black
  • Black then gray
  • All gray
Doing them in that order rinses the hoses at the end. I use two separate hoses. The short one with bayonet fittings stays at the trailer. The other one, with a bayonet fitting at one end and a 4" IP male fitting goes to the dump station. (We are required to make a solid connection to the dump opening before beginning a transfer.) I usually leave that one at the dump station until completing the third trip.

I'm 73 years old and I don't mind dragging/lifting that 25 gallon tote, but I wouldn't want a bigger one.
