Water Heater Question

So I pulled the trailer out for the first time this year. I bought it used so Im not real familiar with this unit. So I cannot get the water heater to operate. I have a duel switch (gas or electric). I have gas on, even bled line to unit. I checked all the connections at the water heater. Check both fuses. I notice that when I flip the switch to on (gas side) no light comes on that is in the middle of the switches, is this suppose to come on? Also no lights on the control board at the heater.
Question: When I switch the unit on, should the light on the switch panel turn on indicating power? Should I get power light indication on the control board at the heater as well?

Thanks for your help

Sounds like a power supply issue, should be lights coming on at the control panel. What is your power source?
Make sure there is water in the water heater before turning anytime on.

First of all make sure you have water in the tank before you attempt any heat source. For the electric you have to open the outside cover on the water heater and turn on the electric at a small rocker switch in the lower left corner of the panel (hard to see without bending over) after you fill the tank. You can check to see if the tank is full by opening the relief valve until you get water out of it. I can't speak for the LP source since you say you have gas flow, maybe someone else can help with that. Maybe Bobby can help (WM Tire).

Pictures of your switches and of the water heater with the cover open will help getting you working again.

Yes, make/model of your water heater will help.
Not all models have an outside switch. Not all models have an inside switch.

Did it work before? (last season)
Do any of your other LP appliances work?
Do you own a multimeter and know how to use it?

Posting year, make and model of RV would help a lot since you don't have listed in your profile.

That light is most likely the DSI (Direct Spark Ignition) Fault light. It should come on if the burner fails to light.

Now saying that, have you checked the ECO/Hi-Temp resets behind the outdoor panel? The reset is behind the black rubber cover in the middle of the circle. If it is tripped your WH will not try to light as the power goes through the reset before going to the control board.

What is the manufacturer name and model of your water heater. You will find the operators and service manuals for Suburban WH in the library section in the green bar at the top of each forum page.

Ok, so I just pulled out the inside switches, moved a few to make sure it was connected good and I heard it light outside. So it is running. However the light in the center between the two switches is not lit. Is it suppose to be when the unit is turned on?

The unit is a Atwood GCH6A Electronic

No, that light (DSI Fault)will come on only if the heater fails to light.

Here's the manual for you WH.

Thank you,

That is what was confusing me. It seems to me the light was to show that the unit was on. Good to know. I order a new switch just in case.

Thank you everyone for your help, I always get good advise on here

On all the units I've owned, the DSI light comes on when you first turn on the switch and stays on until the water heater lights. It then goes off once the water heater successfully lights.

That makes sense to me. I order a new one just in case, not an expenses part. Thanks
