Water pooling

2022 F.R. Wildcat 5th wheel

Curious about others thoughts. I recently read an article that said when camping and rainy season you should have your trailer tilted otherwise water will puddle on top of the slide outs. The theory was that the top is very thin and the weight would would be a lot.

Obviously, if you don’t have the covers on the slide outs.

With the rainy season in Texas, that could be a problem if the rain just accumulated on top of the slide. However, I think it would run off once it reached a certain depth. I'd be more concerned if the water sat on top of the slide for any length of time. Whether tipping the rig would help is something you'd have to try to see if the water would drain completely.

Even with slide toppers, you could get wind driven rain on top of the slide.
A bit more preventative maintenance on the seals of the slide would be advised.

the weight theory is someone sitting up at night drinking to much trying to think up problems to raise their post count. tilting your rig before bringing the slides in during heavy rain will allow some water to run off the slide box roof helps if you have poor seals on the slide. JMHO

having a 12v fridge enables me to allow a bit more tilt... but not so much to be noticeable when sitting inside.

Propane fridge trailer needs to be more level.

side to side tilt ..... having the slide as the low side.

No pooling on top of slide or rain draining towards the wall where it can get inside.

front -back tilt... for air conditioner water and rain
my a/c is in the middle so usually let the local conditions determine which end to tilt up...

What if the trailer has slides on both sides... how do you put THE slide on the low side?

The sky is not falling.

1. A square foot of water one inch deep weighs 5.2 pounds and I can't see an inch deep puddle any larger than that forming on the roof or a canopy. Canopy installation should drain naturally.

2. Leveling a propane refrigerator? If the camper is level enough to sleep in it's level enough for the refrigerator.
