I had considered the F150 Ecoboost..a lot !!..BUT... If i were to ever want a bigger 5th wheel ( mine now weighs 7,700 lbs dry ) ..and wanted to go climb the highest Mountains and hills ...then look for a good used F 250- F350..Supercab works for me. DIESEL !!! 400 Horsepower...800 ft lbs of torque...3,900 lbs of payload capacity..that... you.. CANNOT get in a F150..!!!

Awesome truck!!! I've got the integrated brake controller in my 2008 and I love it. Not only does it work exceedingly well but the best part is my knee isn't bumping into it like the brake controller in my old truck. The other feature you'll love is the integrated exhaust brake that comes on in tow/haul mode that really helps slow you down while towing on a downhill. Enjoy your rig.

RE: 5.4 L

I believe that if my 5.4 L had a tow/haul and a 6 spd tranny I would still have it.

I also believe that if you are getting into 3/4 and 1 ton trucks you should go diesel and 4x4.

I drove F150's for 25 years and loved them but when I got into using one for camping and towing a 5K# TT (and probably a 5er in the near future) had to get a heftier TV.

I'm interested in what kind of MPG you get with her towing and not towing. MPG estimates on the super duty forums seem to be all over the place. It may be time for me to do some horse trading as well.

3900lb payload in an F250 diesel? Can you please post a picture of your yellow sticker? I sure would like to see that because I don't believe it.

My F250 diesel doesn't have a 1000 miles on it yet but my first pull with 8000 lb TT was about 159 miles each way, flat ground mild winds and got 12.8 miles to gal.

In town been getting 14 and 20 on hwy.

I traded my 2008 6.4L for my 2011. Not towing, I average about 18 daily driving (was getting just over 19 until the last computer flash...still working on that). On the highway, I got just short of 23 mpg. Towing my 5th wheel (about 10,500 as we tow it), I get between 10.5 and 11.5, but have pushed the 12 mpg mark once. But the big difference is in the way it tows that 5th wheel. I've said it before, but I'll say it again...I'm not a big believer in "night and day difference", but this is about as close as it comes. The 6.7L pulls my 5th wheel so much better than the 6.4L did. It really is a tremendous difference. If you have the opportunity, you would not be disappointed.

Also, keep in mind the 2013's are just about ready to order (I think they have the ordering guide already). No difference in the drivetrain or body design, but the amenities have changed a bit (what comes standard on different trims, etc.).

Diesel is definately the way to go if you can afford it. The tow is about as effortless as it gets.

If you haven't bought a truck yet, also consider the Chevy 2500 HD. All the Fords I see need airbags for a level tow. Not the Chevy.

The thing about the GM's is body size. The 1500 and the 2500 are the same body. Frames are different of course. So if you don't want such a huge truck, it's a way to go. Mileage is around the same - I get 21 or 22 highway unloaded, 17-19 around town. Towing a 9000 lb trailer is around 12-13 depending on terrain.

I think that's a little like trusting the Brochure weight for RV's. What does your sticker inside the door say? You could have a 3900 lb capacity, but your truck could only weigh 6100 lbs. It might, you do have lightest F250 (diesel) combination you can buy.

My Truck does.... have a 10,000 Lb GVW..SO.. If you subtract 6100 from 10,000 lbs doesnt that = 3,900 lbs ??

Right, your GVWR is 10,000, then you subtract the actual weight of the truck and that leaves payload. If your payload is 3900 lbs your truck can only weigh 6100 lbs (10,000 - 3900 = 6100 lb). That seems really light to me because Ford trucks are overweight. My F150 with me and a full tank weighed 6100 lbs. My F250 with me and full tank weighs 8100 lbs. So even though my sticker says 2014 payload, I can really only have a 1900 payload when I have a full tank and I'm driving it without exceeding the 10,000 lb GVWR.

Your GCWR is the max allowed total weight of truck, cargo and trailer. So if your truck weighed 7000lbs loaded for camping, that would leave you 16,500 lbs for trailer weight. 23,500 - 7000 = 16,500

What does the sticker inside the drivers door say?

The 2012 Ford F 250 specs say My truck has a 14,000 lb conventional TT and 16,300 lb 5th wheel towing capability....MAX....i will never go near any of theses with a 5th wheel thats dry at 7,700lbs...and just the 2 of us packing what we need... for any trip...
